Brother MFC-J995DW

Office Oriented

The Brother MFC-J995DW is another decent all-arounder that brings quite a lot of officeworthy features to the table. It deftly combines convenience, efficiency, and productivity - the things that most small offices will definitely like.

With the modern tendency to cut down ink costs, Brother has done its best to create high-capacity liquid-filled cartridges that would last from one to two years. And what we get now is the MFC-J995DW supplied with INKvestment Tank Ink System - one of the greatest advantages of this printer. According to Brother, you will go for a year at least without a need to replace the inks. The supplied cartridges are now larger and more efficient.

Besides that, this all-arounder offers a number of other innovations that are focused on simplifying printing tasks. For example, the small display shows you how much ink is remained as well as how many pages you'll be able to print before a refill, which is a rare feature found in other models at this price point.

Other tweaks include Wi-Fi compatibility letting you print from your mobile devices and duplex printing allowing for minimum supervision. Overall, the printer can handle up to 5000 pages per month, albeit the manufacturer doesn't recommend going over 1500 pages.

Take note that this printer isn't very fast - it can churn out 12 ppm in black and 10 ppm in color. Though, it's still a respectable speed for any inkjet printer and any small office duty.

Review of Brother MFC-J995DW INKvestmentTank Color Inkjet All-in-One Printer

Easy Operation

Space economy sometimes becomes a dealbreaker when it comes to busy office environments. With that in mind, the folks at Brother has made this MFP quite small yet efficient. At just 17.1” x 13.4” x 7.7”, it does it all - print, scan, copy and fax. And all these functions work perfectly.

To make the navigation easier, the unit is fitted with a 2.7" color touch screen that works well for all menu selections. Yet, the screen seems a little too small for some users.

On the left of the control panel, there is an SD card slot and a USB port for printing/scanning directly from memory card or USB drive. Wireless printing is also available. Moreover, thanks to the built-in NFC module, this all-rounder can print from your mobile devices if you just place them near the device.

Despite having the small size, the printer can hold up to 150 sheets in its main paper tray and an additional sheet in the specialty media tray on the back. The latter can hold only one sheet for printing photos on photo paper. The images get accurate, well-saturated with colors and are full of fine details.

Long story short, this is a solid printer for homes and small offices. It offers plenty of productivity and connectivity options for all-around multifunction needs. And it saves some money on ink as well.

HP OfficeJet 250

Mobile Printer

Though the HP OfficeJet 250 is considered to be a home printer, with its compact 15"x 8" x 3.5" dimensions and incredibly light weight of about 6.5 lbs, it can fall into the mobile printing category. With that, despite its compact dimensions, it packs quite a punch offering you plenty of useful features. So, if you need something usable that could fit in a checked luggage suitcase for business trips, it's an optimal choice.

To begin with, the printer comes with two trays for printing and scanning. Both of them have handy movable paper guides to let you choose the correct paper size. When not in use, they can be neatly folded down and secured in place even without the need for a latch.

As it's often the case with mobile printers, the HP 250 has a hidden battery pack that is located in the rear. Also, it has a USB port for cable connection on the back panel. Yet, when necessary, you can also use it wirelessly via Wi-Fi or Wireless Direct.

Overall, the printer is very straightforward to use - the glossy casing features a power button, three indicator lights, and a 2" LCD touchscreen that can be quickly popped up at 45 degrees. The screen offers large icons and menus that can be easily scrolled through and selected. What's more, it shows you some useful info like the battery status or whether the sleep mode and auto-off timer are activated.

Review of HP OfficeJet 250 All-in-One Portable Printer with Wireless & Mobile Printing

Grab and Go

If you don't want to use a touchscreen, you can perform all the same functions via your smartphone or tablet. The printer comes with a proprietary HP Smart app that works amazingly well and, probably, overshadows the LCD touchscreen controls. The said app has well-organized menus and instantly notifies you about such issues as low ink levels or empty paper tray.

Compared to full-size home printers, the speed of this model is quite low. However, it's surely one of the leaders in the mobile printing industry. It's claimed to print around 9-10 pages per minute, no matter whether you're printing from your PC or mobile phone. The speed also doesn't decrease if you're running the unit on battery power. Speaking of which, the OfficeJet 250 can work for 24 hours (or 500 pages worth of printing) after a full 90-minute charge, meaning you can carry it around with you all day long without a need for outlets.

When it comes to photo quality, the printer produces surprisingly bright and vivid images with a full-color spectrum. It can print 5"x7" glossy photos in about 50 seconds, though keep in mind that the resolution will be lower compared to its full-sized counterparts.

In all, if you're looking for a decent printer that can be used both at home and on-the-go, the HP OfficeJet 250 is one of the best offerings available for sale. With the great portability and good printing quality, it's a thing any businessman should own. Pull it out from your backpack when you need to print some docs and stow it away as soon as you're done. That's the beauty of the HP 250.

For Family Photo Printing

Canon needs no presentation. It's a famous company known for producing high-quality products for photography. This printer is one of them.

Right out-of-the-box, the Canon TS9120 looks great. At 14.7" x 14.2" x 5.6", it's quite compact and sleek-looking. The main casing comes in black but the lid is available in gray, gold and red besides the original black. Yet, what makes it very modern is the impressive 5-inch color touchscreen. It sits right on the front panel that hinges upward 90 degrees and is very convenient to operate. In essence, the printer has no physical buttons and all the stand-alone operations can be done with the said touch screen.

Under the panel, there is an SD card slot enabling you to print from a memory card even without switching on your PC. By the way, with the TS9120, you also get Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and Ethernet connectivity options.

Nice Extras

The Canon color printer comes with a well laid-out manual that easily walks you through each step. The included CD contains all the required drivers and additional software. The mentioned software does a good job of determining the color correction required to provide you with perfect prints without a need to tweak any settings. It also boasts pre-set creative filters that can help you add nice effects to your photos.

The software can be used for making labels for your personalized CD or DVD discs. As you have probably guessed, the Canon TS9120 is capable of printing on pre-surfaced CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays via a small caddy that hides just beneath the output tray.

As for input paper trays, the printer has two of them. Both trays hold up to 100 sheets of plain paper or 20 sheets of premium photo paper. All this makes the Pixma TS9120 a decent pick for all-around inkjet printing. It comes with 6 individual ink tanks and delivers fantastic image quality without sacrificing speed. It really offers a lot of bang for the buck.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8035

For Large Scale Printing

The OfficeJet Pro 8035 is one of the latest entries in the HP's lineup, and as you may expect from the brand, it's another excellent all-in-one device that offers amazing print quality and comes at a fair price.

Targeted over both homes and small businesses, it has plenty of office-oriented features and boasts incredible printing speed. Actually, this printer can churn out up to 20 pages in monochrome per minute, while the tray can hold as many as 225 standard A4 sheets and 35 sheets ADF. Moreover, its monthly duty cycle makes 20,000 pages, which definitely sets this printer apart from the competition.

With that, this MFP is relatively compact with its dimensions of 18.11 x 20.13 x 9.17 inches. Unlike usual office printers that stick out like a sore thumb, this model is space-saving and quiet. With a wonderful body design, it looks attractive and integrates beautifully into most interiors. And to make things even better, the manufacturer offers this all-in-one printer in stylish Coral, Oasis, and Basalt colors. One of the finest things about all designs is a little adjustment screen that hangs on the mid-left of the printer.
Review of HP OfficeJet Pro 8035 All-in-One Wireless Printer

Smart Capabilities

As mentioned, it's a good home printer with some office-oriented features. It's designed to do everything that involves working with documents, photocopying, faxing, scanning, printing, and even organizing them. If you download the Smart Tasks mobile app, you'll be able to automate your scanning tasks, emailing, as well as saving files on your smartphone. Also, you'll get an opportunity to save your receipts directly to QuickBooks. Simply scan them on your smartphone and the Smart Tasks app will automatically send them to QuickBooks.

Another perk here is the Scan to e-mail feature which allows users to scan a document on this MFP and send it to your email addresses. And as you may expect from modern printers, this model features WiFi and WiFi Direct. That means you'll be able to print remotely using the proprietary HP Smart app. This app gives you access to printing, scanning, copying, and some other tasks from the convenience of your phone or other compatible devices. It even helps you track ink levels, though the folks behind HP have done their best to take away all the guesswork from you.

With the HP Instant Ink feature, the OfficeJet Pro 8035 printer can monitor the ink level automatically and place an order for new cartridges when the ink runs low. This way, you'll have the fresh cartridges delivered right to your doorstep and never run out of ink. All this makes the HP OfficeJet Pro 8035 the answer to large-scale home printing needs.

HP Officejet 3830

Simple and Intuitive

In case you're in the market for a simple and reasonably-priced MFP to use from time to time, the HP Officejet 3830 is worth your serious consideration. It's an intuitive and frustration-free home printer that is easy to install and use. Actually, everything you need to do to start printing is plug it in, enter Wi-Fi password, and insert paper. It neither asks to download a special app (though HP offers a good one if you like that sort of things) nor does the printer require any special software for your home computers. It instantly works with all the devices in the same Wi-Fi network. It's that easy.

What we also liked is that this MFP uses only two ink cartridges (black and color) rather than using three or more color cartridges. And these cartridges deliver surprisingly good printing results. Of course, it certainly can't match the precision characters produced by high-quality laser printers, but it does much better than most of its inkjet siblings. The text printed with the OfficeJet 3830 gets well defined, while graphs and figures look bold with crisp definition and lifelike colors. So, we believe this printer can handle even formal data with lots of graphics quite well.

However, the cost for that amazing quality is the slow printing speed. It's able to print just 3-6 colorful pages per minute. Still, this won't feel too limiting if you're going to print occasionally.

Review of HP Officejet 3830 Wireless All-in-One Printer

HP Instant Ink Program

Take note that basically, the cartridges needed for the HP OfficeJet 3830 aren’t very affordable. That's why the HP company offers the Instant Ink subscription program which can help users save up to 50% on consumables. The program offers you different subscription plans and you can choose the preferable one based on the number of pages you typically print per month. Once any of the ink cartridges runs low, the printer will automatically re-order it and a new one will be delivered to your door. Hence, by subscribing to the Instant Ink program, you can save much money and won't have to worry about ink running low when you expect it the least.

Apart from the Instant Ink program, there're some other features you should be aware of. The printer offers a user-friendly touchscreen interface, Wi-Fi enabled options (cloud printing, mobile printing, scanning directly to cloud storage services). But the HP OfficeJet 3830 has no Ethernet connection and lacks flash memory support. Yet, these are minor problems with an otherwise excellent printer.

So, if you need a simple, moderately priced all-in-one machine for occasional use, it's a great choice. With good color graphics, decent text quality, and self-explanatory operation, the HP Officejet 3830 is a real bargain.

What Is a Home Printer?

A home printer increasingly becomes a necessity for most households, especially those who run a family business. If you have a printer at home, you won't need to search for companies that will provide printing services for your images or documents. All you need to do is turn the printer on and send anything you want to print at one click of a button.

Home printers can transfer the user's ideas on paper whether it is a project or a book, a great picture or a list of recipes for homemakers, a presentation or some educational materials for students or children.

Today, you may find speedy laser printers, high-quality inkjet models, or comprehensive all-in-one machines that can not only print but also scan, copy, and fax.

In this article, we don't only review different top-quality home printers, but also help you deal with the selection and types of such devices.

Today, there are also options for wireless printing and a possibility to carry a small printer around.

Best Home Printers 2017

What Features to Compare

Printing Capabilities

Choosing a printer for home, first of all, you should pay your attention to the major feature - printing capabilities. The first parameter to consider it is a printing technology used in the device. There are 2 most widely-used ones: laser and ink-jet.

  • Ink-jet printers use a multicolor ink for printing. The advantages of this kind of printing are a reasonable price of the printer itself as well as the consumables, a high printing speed, a good quality of images and a capability of printing color documents. The cons are: a relatively low page yield of default cartridges, which is enough for around 150 copies (on average), and also a limited time of a standby - the printer should print at least once in 2-3 weeks to not let the ink get dry.
  • Laser printers can be of 2 types: monochrome (black-and-white) and color. The most widespread and popular are the monochrome ones. Among the benefits of a laser printer, we can mention a high printing speed and a huge page yield - from 1,000 pages at a single toner. Laser printers are perfect for printing B&W documents but are often inferior to inkjet printers when it comes to printing of images.

Printing Resolution

The second factor affecting the quality of a document printing is the printing resolution - the higher it is, the better the quality. If you are searching the printer for a home photo printing, we'd say that the best choice here is the ink-jet printer with extended color packs providing correct shades and color transition. A significant aspect is also a speed of documents printing, measured in pages per minute (ppm).

Cartridge and Tray Capacity

Another important feature is the cartridge and tray capacity. Depending on the printing technology, each type of printers is capable of printing its individual number of copies at a single cartridge. Some manufacturers offer cartridges with extended capacity that help you save your money by increasing the number of pages they can print. It is also worth checking the paper tray capacity because this feature seriously impacts the device's usability.

Functions

Having decided on the technical side of printing, it's recommended to assess the possibilities of a printer itself, for example, functions. There are 2 categories of printers: MFP (multifunctional printers) and regular printers. MFP combine several devices in one: a copier, a scanner, and a printer, sometimes even a fax. Also, in addition to the standard set for the MFP, the device may have additional features such as printing from a memory card, photo editing directly on the printer owing to the built-in display and software.

Connectivity

Finally, you should decide what devices you could sync with the new printer. For this pay your attention to connectivity. The hi-tech devices support not only a cable connection but also a wireless Wi-Fi network, which significantly extends the list of gadgets you can sync with the printer.
