The ultra-thin monitor border is practically invisible so you can put several of these side by side and get a huge display area.

The USB ports are on the back, facing downwards, and are kind of inconvenient to reach.

OUR VERDICT

This is a high-end and high-quality 24-inch monitor with an excellent AH-IPS panel and, as a result, pristine image quality. Admittedly, its design could use some minor improvement but that's not a substantial gripe compared to what the Dell U2415 has to offer. It's a perfect pick for those who work from home or dabble in photo editing.

Dell U2415

Convenience Above All

Those who often work with image editing or just have to use their PC for work-related tasks know that there’s no such thing as too convenient. Any inch of improvement you can get is precious so, if you’re willing to pay above the average, we highly recommend getting the best 24 inch monitor on the market. We’re talking about the Dell U2415, which takes the comfort of use to a whole new level.

For one, and this will specifically satisfy those who often read text on the screen or edit photos, you can rotate the screen 90° both clockwise and counter-clockwise. This makes it easier to enjoy an e-book or touch up a few vertically-oriented designs you’ve been working on. It’s a small feature but it shows the kind of attention to detail that we always appreciate in tech. Oh, and you can also adjust the height of the stand so if you’re tired of constantly craning your neck to look down at the screen, don’t hesitate to take advantage of that.

The screen itself has a very thin border, which isn’t just a great design solution. This allows for putting several identical monitors side by side and having a panoramic view, great for gamers and those who want to watch movies on a larger screen. Considering the 1920 x 1200 resolution, you can really get good image quality if you’re willing to break the bank a little.

Review of Dell U2415 24-Inch IPS Monitor (FullHD, 60Hz)

See More in Higher Quality

The viewing angle on the Dell U2415 is also very wide, a further testament to its convenience as you can sit off to the side, reclining in your chair, and still see everything on the screen. Couple that with the fact that the panel type here is AH-IPS and you get excellent image quality with no blind spots or visual artifacts (blurring and such). We do have to admit that the response time here isn’t as fast as it would be on a gaming monitor but this is clearly aimed more at casual use for work, movie watching, and web browsing. 6 ms is pretty good all things considered, unless you’re playing online games competitively.

We don’t want to misrepresent the Dell U2415 though so we have to admit that it does have some flaws. For one, the USB ports here, though numerous, are a chore to reach for. They’re placed on the back of the monitor (probably because it’s too thin to put them on the sides) and face downwards so you’ll have to bend your arm behind the screen and jab at the port trying to put the cable in. Not exactly optimal but not a big problem overall. Plus, it’s overshadowed by the sheer number of ports available here. We won’t list them again as they’re available in the info table but suffice it to say that you’ll be able to connect your Dell U2415 to any other device you want.

In the end, a few minor flaws can’t spoil our overall opinion of this model. It’s the best 24” monitor that might cost more than usual but also offers stellar quality. This should be your first choice if you love watching movies on your PC or work from home.

ASUS VS248H-P

Game On!

Those who like to spend an hour or two in the evening playing online shooters know the pain of losing a match just because your internet lagged or the screen didn’t respond in time and showed you the enemy in the wrong position. It’s incredibly frustrating and yet this problem has an easy fix in the form of the ASUS VS248H-P.

This is a gaming monitor through and through, thanks in part to the TN panel built into the screen. For one, you get the excellent 2 ms response time. That’s pretty impressive and it could only be better if pared down to 1 ms but that would bump the price up to absurd levels and this is a firmly mid-range model in terms of cost. Which is to say that the price here may be average but the specs keep surprising. Like, for example, the SplendidPlus Video Intelligence technology helps users who have no interest in fiddling with the sharpness, contrast, and color settings. The system automatically adjusts them to fit the current picture being displayed so you’ll never feel like the screen is too dark, blurry, or not colorful enough.

The SplendidPlus VI tech is also coupled with the Smart View mode that only affects colors but does so in a non-intrusive way. Your display will gradually change settings to make images appear more vivid and have richer shades, resulting in amazing picture quality with absolutely no input from you.

Review of ASUS VS248H-P 24-Inch Monitor (FullHD, 60Hz)

Flawed but Gold

Even in terms of interfaces, the ASUS VS248H-P manages to stand its ground against the high-end competitors. This model has VGA, DVI, and HDMI ports so you can connect it to your PC any way you like. We wouldn’t have minded a USB port to round out the options but the display is good enough without it.

What did disappoint us was the lack of cables that came with the purchase. It would be nice to open up the box and just plug an HDMI cable into the monitor to set things up right away. Still, ordering a cord additionally off of Amazon is literally a two-click job, nothing too serious. And while we’re talking about flaws, there’s a reason we didn’t list the headphone jack among the good ports of this model. It has pretty bad sound quality with noticeable noise and interference, not fit for audiophiles.

But let’s end on a high note and give some appreciation to the excellent 3-year warranty. It’s not limited and it’s long enough for you to test the monitor out with several machines. After all, a long warranty is a sign that the manufacturer trusts its product to do good.

And that’s exactly what the ASUS VS248H-P does, offering gamers an excellent monitor with great response time. While it does have some evident flaws, we’d call this reasonably priced model a great pick for anybody that values the cost-to-quality balance and enjoys online gaming.

Acer R240HY bidx

Perfect for Everyday Tasks

Monitors are often made for a variety of different reasons, with many different models offering specialized functions and features that gear them towards specific use cases. While it is always great to have such devices geared towards those who need their requirements in a monitor met, many of the additional features that are included in such monitors sometimes tend to add complexity and expense to an otherwise solid product, making it a bit out of the reach for those who just need a good all-purpose monitor.

The Acer R240HY bidx R Series 23.8-Inch IPS Monitor is one model that is geared towards everyone. This 23.8" Full HD IPS widescreen monitor is perfect for everyday tasks, as it meets the needs of those who use their computers for many different purposes, while remaining affordable to let anyone who needs a quality monitor buy it. This monitor features a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080, giving you the ability to watch HD content in all of its glory without a loss of resolution or detail. Furthermore, the zero frame design of this monitor lets you view all content from edge to edge without obstacles or distractions while providing great viewing angles from virtually any distance.

Review of Acer R240HY bidx 23.8-Inch IPS Monitor (FullHD, 60Hz)

Superb Quality in All Areas

Although this is a very affordable monitor made for everyday use, this model from Acer doesn't leave much to be desired. This monitor includes an excellent response time of 4ms with a refresh rate of 60 Hz and a brightness of 250 nits, making this an excellent choice for those who want to use this monitor for gaming. The color reproduction is also excellent, as the monitor supports a full palette of 16.7 million colors, ensuring that all content displayed is in full color and without any missing details. This is in stark contrast to many other budget models that have limited color palettes.

This model includes the standard range of input connections, as it includes HDMI, DVI (with HDCP), and even a VGA input. This makes it a good choice for those who have older computers that don't have the latest and greatest video output ports. The monitor includes simple controls through a standard settings menu that lets the user adjust the various settings to their desired choices. HP VH240a

Micro-Edge Design

Providing every segment of the market with a suitable piece of computer hardware was always one of the biggest reasons behind the success of Hewlett-Packard Company, better known as HP. Of course, with a price tag a smidge above 110 bucks, what we have here is a budget computer screen. But, for a budget option, the model actually has quite a lot going for it.

First things first, there's the profile of the monitor that incorporates the company's very own micro-edge design. Aside from improving the model in terms of aesthetics, the micro-edge panel works in conjunction with the monitor's affordable price tag to create the perfect opportunity for seamless multi-monitor integration. The product is also no slouch in terms of ergonomics, offering height, tilt, and pivot adjustments that will allow you to experience the picture however you want and make the most out of your workplace.

The question of the environmental footprint is all the rage these days and for a very good reason. Which is probably why the manufacturers relied solely on the most environmentally friendly materials to create the model's components. The Mercury-free LED backlighting, the Arsenic-free monitor glass, and the low-voltage halogen design all work wonders when it comes to promoting energy efficiency and reducing the unnecessary damage to our planet. Of course, any computer monitor is only as good as its picture quality, and we will get to it in a moment. But before that, we would like to briefly mention the built-in speakers, mostly because they offer a surprisingly rich audio experience and will allow you to use the monitor as a television set if need be.

Review of HP VH240a 23.8-inch IPS Monitor (FullHD, 60Hz, Built-in Speakers)

No Glare

Now, as far as the picture quality is concerned, again, what we have here is a budget monitor and that carries with it certain limitations in the image department. For instance, the 72% sRGB coverage means that you won't always get to experience the most realistic colors. Nevertheless, it's not like the model doesn't have anything to offer in terms of visuals. After all, this is a Full HD panel, meaning that the monitor has 2 million pixels at its disposal in order to provide you with crystal-clear imagery and expose you to as detailed of a picture as possible. Plus, the anti-glare nature of the panel will allow you to enjoy the sun and your favorite movies and video games at the same time.

To sum it up, we would recommend this computer monitor to the type of customers that can appreciate an aesthetically-pleasing design. It is also a great budget option for graphic designers and other people who rely on multiple monitors in their work.

Sceptre E248W-19203R

Easy on the Eyes

Those who spend their days working with computers know how tired your eyes can get, especially when you peer into the screen trying to read text or track data changes. While there’s no easy cure-all for this problem, a monitor with a high refresh rate will make things a bit more bearable. So if you want to relieve your eyes and get a good monitor without breaking the proverbial piggy bank, consider getting the Sceptre E248W-19203R.

Even though it’s one of the more affordable models we’ve seen on the market, this monitor rises above even some high-end models simply by offering a 75 Hz refresh rate. It’s not the make-or-break characteristic but it makes longer computer sessions easier on the eyes and improves picture quality to boot. The refresh rate makes transitions between scenes in games and movies smoother and the overall image a bit sharper and vivid. This means that watching a film on this monitor will be an immersive experience as well as a pleasant one.

Admittedly, the refresh rate might be amazing but the response time here is a bit slack. With a level of 16 ms, this model is certainly not the finest pick for gaming. Though that is less important when it comes to regular uses such as watching movies or browsing the internet. So, unless you’re an avid gamer, consider that flaw as minor as they get.

Review of Sceptre E248W-19203R 24-Inch Moniitor (FullHD, 75Hz, Build-in Speakers)

Keeps Up with the Competition

The rest of the specs here are very respectable as well with a 1920 x 1080 resolution and a TN panel backing it up. You can rest assured that the quality here will be as good as possible, far above what you’d expect at this price level.

As for the interfaces, the Sceptre E248W-19203R has a surprisingly high number of them, including two HDMI ports and a VGA one. Plus, this model has built-in speakers with audio In and Out ports as well, so you can watch movies and listen to music even if you don’t have a separate set of speakers. The HDMI ports, by the way, have pretty high data transfer capacities so you can sync this monitor with two devices at once if needed.

In the end, while budget-friendly models, especially ones that don’t come from famous brands, often get a bad rep, it’s not always deserved. The Sceptre E248W-19203R is clear proof of that, offering great image quality, pretty good tech specs, and a very appealing price. It’s not perfect and it might not be the best pick for gamers but it’s certainly a fine choice for those who spend a lot of time on the computer. This monitor is easy on the eyes in more ways than one and it’s worth the asking price for sure.

What Is a 24-Inch Monitor?

Okay, brace yourself as this may be shocking to some readers who don’t have the coveted computer know-how. We’re going to open up the veil and reveal the secret of what exactly a 24-inch computer monitor is… And, yeah, you already know it - it’s a flat screen PC monitor that has a 24 inch diagonal. That’s it, there’s nothing more to know in terms of product description. However, just like with any other kind, the best 24 inch monitor can deliver the kind of quality every gamer wants, providing high resolutions, 1080p picture quality, and good response times and refresh rates. Obviously, there’s nothing too drastically different between these and, say, 27-inch monitors but sometimes that size disparity makes or breaks the product. For one, if you have little space on your desk, a smaller monitor such as these 24-inch ones is the way to go. Plus, they are often more affordable even though the technology is pretty much the same. So if you want to spend your money thriftily and still get a widescreen monitor, these mid-size products have got you covered. And if you are indeed looking for a gaming monitor, you should also check out some of the best gaming chairs on the market because a good seat is half the enjoyment when you sit down to play a long session.

What Features to Compare

So, you’ve decided to kit yourself out with the best 24 inch monitor money can buy but that doesn’t always mean just throwing money at the most expensive model. Instead, you should survey a few key characteristics that will determine whether the screen is worth its weight in gold.

Resolution

First up, don't forget to check the resolution. You don’t want to buy a monitor that dips anywhere below 1920 x 1200. That’s pretty much the mid-range standard for this kind of device and it’s good enough for gaming as well as basic everyday use. While lower resolutions aren’t necessarily horrible, if you’re ready to settle for them, you might as well go for a cheaper and smaller model. As long as you’re paying for a 24” monitor, you might as well get the most out of it.

Panel type

Second, always make sure to take a look at the panel type. Now, this one is easy, you have a choice between the three main types - IPS, TN, and VA. IPS screens are perfect for movie watching or photo editing. They bring out the colors nicely, deliver excellent quality, and, sadly, they also usually cost substantially more than the screens with the two other panel types. Speaking of which, if you want similar image quality (though, of course, not as stellar) you could go for VA panels as they’re cheaper but come with some concessions. And if you’re a gamer and lightning-fast response times are a must, your best bet is to go for a TN panel type.

Response time / Refresh rate

Third, yet another gamer-friendly point, check the response time/refresh rate specs. The lower your response time the better, obviously, but remember that a high refresh rate is good for the eyes. We’re not telling you what to do but if you spend days in front of the monitor - this is a crucial feature to pay attention to.

Interfaces

Fourth but no less important are the interfaces. Having an HDMI port or a USB one is pretty much standard these days but a few more wouldn’t hurt. A headphone jack is convenient if your monitor has a good built-in audio system and a VGA interface can be useful as well, especially if you’re planning to hook the display up to an older device.

Aspect ratio

Lastly, do pay a bit of attention to the aspect ratio. That one doesn’t even require looking at the specs written down, just take a glance at the monitor and consider whether you like the design. Some people tend to prefer square monitors while some want widescreen models. This one isn’t as key and hard to miss anyway but still an important aspect of your 24 inch monitor.

Did you know?

Although whole lives are spent in front of computer screens (or tablet displays or mobile screens, you get the idea), it’s surprising how rarely people actually take the time to do some maintenance on the devices. And even fewer users bother to set up their screens in a way that mitigates some of the strain on the eyes that comes from staring at a monitor all day long.

First up, let’s talk hygiene.

Cleaning Your Computer Screen

While it’s not exactly mandatory, keeping the dust and dirt off of your monitor effectively extends its service life and improves picture quality. Besides, cleaning a monitor is easy as pie, so don’t try to avoid this little chore. Instead, here are some tips to make it a streamlined, safe, and efficient process.

  • First, turn the monitor off as well as your computer. Sure, the odds of things going wrong to the point of an electric shock are slim but safety always comes first. Plus, it’s easier to spot marks and stains on a darkened screen.
  • When you wipe the display, make sure to use a dry cloth or one of the special computer-friendly wipes that can be bought at specialized shops. Never use a wet rag unless you’re just itching to ruin your tech. It can be a teeny bit damp for some of the nastier spots and stains but not outright wet.
  • Speaking of ruining the tech, under no circumstances should you press on the screen during cleaning. Most stains and dirt will be swiped right off with no force applied and even those that take a bit of time don’t require any pressure. Press too hard even once and you risk damaging the internal parts of your monitor forever.
  • Last but not least, do not use regular cleaning solutions, especially ones that some internet users recommended. Sure, one in a hundred might be safe and effective. But the rest will just ruin your screen and leave a mess for you to deal with.

Just Resting My Eyes

Okay, so while we could follow wishful thinking and deny that computer screens wreak havoc on the eyes, it’s far more productive to face the music and take steps to reduce the damage done. Start by going to your eye doctor and see if they might already have some suggestions for you. A pair of special computer glasses wouldn’t hurt, for example.

If you’re not eager to spend money on glasses or doctor appointments, you could try doing some things yourself. First off, do take time away from the PC. Once every couple of hours, lean back, turn away from the screen, and close your eyes. Just a few minutes of rest can help roll back some of the damage done and make things better in the long run. Plus, check to see if your lighting setup is making the screen easier on your eyes or, and that’s a sad possibility, making things worse. Low light means more straining which leads to eye tiredness and problems later on.

And if you’re still using any type of display that isn’t a flat-screen LCD or better, it’s high time for an upgrade! Try finding a used model, if money is tight. Not only will it likely improve overall picture quality but also keep your eyes from getting sore after a day of work.
