iRobot Roomba 880
3.5 Hours for Thorough Clean-ups
Want to keep your household tidy but tired of lugging around a vacuum with long cords that get stuck on the corners and always get in your way? Don’t want to waste your time moving furniture to clean out dust from underneath it? Well, then it's time to consider the iRobot Roomba 880, an automatic vacuum that can help solve these two problems. For one, it's wireless, which means there won't be any cords in your way, and for two, it doesn't require lifting. Once you schedule the vac, it will build a cleaning route and will do all cleanups for you. Thanks to its tiny dimensions, the iRobot Roomba 880 will easily get under the furniture and all those hard-to-reach areas ridding you of the need to clean there additionally.
The iRobot Roomba 880 is equipped with one of the most powerful batteries out there that provides it with up to 210 minutes of cleaning time, which is usually enough to clean three-four rooms, on average, depending on their size. The sensors on the vac allow it to detect obstacles on its way, making each cleanup fast and effective. The operation of the iRobot Roomba 880 is quiet which allows you to keep it running during the night without disturbing a sound sleep of your family.
The only downside we could find in the Roomba 880 is that the instructions manual it comes with is not exactly clear on some important points but you can figure them out intuitively as the vac is pretty simple to set up and use.
Easy to Program for Automatic Cleanups
One of the biggest advantages to using robotic vacuums is the ability to program them, "telling" the vac exactly when to turn on and what areas to clean. And the iRobot Roomba 880 is not an exception. You can set it up to clean any specific type of flooring, as well as schedule it to work on certain days of a week or even a month to keep your house clean even while being away. The sensors on this robot vac cleaner are self-adaptable which means they constantly map out your home to keep track of the changes you do. So even if you decide to redesign your living room and move some furniture, you won't have a problem with the cleaner finding its way around the place. It will quickly make a new cleaning route.
The iRobot Roomba 880 enjoyes the AeroForce filter system to keep all trapped dust and dirt inside the collection tank ensuring that nothing can escape of it in the process of cleaning. This feature is crucial, especially for individuals prone to allergic reactions triggered by dust and pollen particles.
Overall, the iRobot Roomba 880 will be a good choice for you if you have a large household and want to keep your domestic chores on schedule. Being able to run for almost 4 hours, it will allow you to clean a two-storied house with ease and no effort. But the best thing is, at no additional cost, you also get beacons for restricting the cleaning area of the vac and three replacement filters, so you can save about 10-13 bucks right away.
iRobot Roomba 690
For Every Household
Would you like to keep your beautiful hardwood or tiled floors clean? Tired of constantly dealing with spills in the kitchen? Don’t worry, the iRobot Roomba 690 will lend you a helping hand. Despite its tiny size, this smart gadget yields enough power to clean the entire house of dust and dirt in a minimum amount of time. The benefit of this vac cleaner is that it quickly adapts to different types of flooring, meaning it will be effective both on carpets and hard floors. Highly sensitive sensors allow it to build an accurate map of your house so that it could avoid running into corners, furniture, and people. There's one thing about the iRobot Roomba 690 which might somewhat complicate its use - this robotic cleaner determines all high objects as obstacles and bypasses them; this may be a problem if there are many fluffy carpets in your house. Having said that, if your carpets are of standard thickness, the Roomba 690 will handle them perfectly. Furthermore, you can manually guide it onto the carpets using remote controls or voice commands so it doesn't consider them as obstacles.
It'll be fair to say that this robotic vacuum isn't the best option for deep cleaning, however, you won't find a lot of robots that would fit this task anyway. But if you search for an alternative to your regular hoover that would perform light clean-ups around your house, the iRobot Roomba 690 can be your best bet.
What Makes the Roomba 690 So Effective
The iRobot Roomba 690 is equipped with a special double-brush system that makes cleanups easier and more thorough, picking up both small dust and bigger debris like food crumbs, fur clumps etc. The device sucks up every speck of dirt it finds sending the air back through a filter that captures even the tiniest dust particles. With the purchase, you get one extra filter for free.
A virtual barrier is also included so you can restrict the movement of your Roomba vacuum cleaner. That way you can keep it away from small children and pets or make sure that it doesn’t accidentally slip out of your house through the door that was left open. The 690 model is also fitted with special Dirt Detect sensors that find areas with high debris concentration. Thanks to that, the device prioritizes cleaning ensuring that all parts of your house are equally clean.
The iRobot Roomba 690 is a solid choice for a big house. It's designed for cleaning up to 2,000 square feet on a full charge that lasts for an hour and comes with a good bunch of useful accessories. If these are the exact things you're looking for in a robotic cleaner, the Roomba 690 can be your best choice.

You won't have to rifle through instruction manuals and will be able to set it up with just a few presses. Furthermore, the vac memorizes the selected program and automatically activates it every next use, so unless you decide to change it there's nothing you need to do.
Do you have a multi-level house and are concerned that because you've got stairs and the basement, using a robot cleaner isn't for you? The iRobot Roomba 690 is the type of cleaner that was designed speicfically for you. Thanks to the iAdapt® Navigation system comprising special sensors, this cleaner is able to sense all steep and inclined areas and bypass them avoiding drop-offs.
Not only does the iAdapt® Navigation allow the vac to avoid falling, but it also enables it to sense the dirtiest parts of the house, detect all kinds of obstacles, and cleverly build cleaning paths. The Roomba 690 adapts to all types of floors and cleans effectively under all kinds of furniture such as beds, sofas, wardrobes etc.
The iRobot Roomba 690 is optimized for carpets and tiled floors, which means it might struggle a bit on hardwood flooring. But once you let it loose in your tiled kitchen it will make it sparklingly clean in no time! The iRobot Roomba 690 provides up to 90 minutes of runtime from a single charge and that's enough for most quick cleanups.
To sum up, unless you live in a house with hardwood floors, the iRobot Roomba 690 can be the right choice for you.
iRobot Roomba 614
Old but Gold
Hate crawling around your house with a rag cleaning under the fridge, sofa, and chairs? Want a little help in your regular cleanups? Let’s take a look at the iRobot Roomba 614, a tiny but speedy automatic vacuum cleaner designed for removing debris and dust in an intelligent way. Allergic customers will find it especially useful since the vac is so small it can get into all nooks and crannies of the house to clean dust even there.
The iRobot Roomba 614 is only 3.6 inches high and can thus squeeze under a wardrobe, an armchair, or even some floor-standing cabinets to collect dust, dirt, fur and hair that have been stuck in there. You don't have to lift it or move around, the cleaner does all job for you.
Do note that the collection tank of the Roomba 614 isn't too big and you’ll have to empty it quite often. However, that's the only inconvenience about this vac. In all other respects, the Roomba 614 doesn't trail behind its more expensive counterparts and offers pretty much all functions and features you'd expect a robotic vac to have.
A No-Nonsense Decent Automatic Vacuum
Being part of an older series provides some of its own advantages. Suchwise, with the iRobot Roomba 614, you get some of the features that are no longer available in the newer models. One of the standouts is an angled brush which is indispensable when it comes to cleaning along the walls and corners. Thanks to the special angle of the brush, the vac can get really close to an object, to brush away dirt, fur, or crumbs.
Furthermore, the iRobot Roomba 614 features a 3-stage cleaning system and comes equipped with the Dirt Detect sensors. This allows it to adapt to the height of all objects and to clean more thoroughly in areas with higher dirt concentration.
Another handy feature which will certainly come to liking to certain users is that the Roomba 614 requires no programming. All you will need to do to activate it is press the CLEAN button and it will start to work. A single full charge provides the vac with up to 90 minutes of cleanup which is an average time for most Roomba vacs.
So even though the iRobot Roomba 614 isn't the latest model of robotic cleaners on the market, it can certainly be considered as a good choice for all those that need a cleaner with a basic set of features and a good price. After all, you buy Roomba so you buy quality.
What Is an iRobot Roomba Robot Vacuum?
Want to keep your home spotless without having to crawl on your hands and knees to get to the fur or pet hair stuck under your couch or armchair? Here's the solution - an iRobot Roomba robot vacuum, a smart cleaner that will do the cleaning job for you. Many robotic cleaners can be programmed to switch on at a specific time on certain days of the week, in order to do the cleaning automatically without your supervision. Some of them have Wi-Fi connectivity and can be paired with a smartphone allowing you to control the cleaner remotely and view the progress of cleaning.
Compact and lightweight, Roomba cleaners can get into all those nooks and crannies of your house to keep it sparklingly clean. You will no longer need to spend your time on scrubbing carpets and dusting. The iRobot Roomba robot vacuum will keep dust and allergies at bay. It works for all floors and carpets and it won't miss a thing.
What Features to Compare
Compatibility with Apps and Gadgets
Thanks to numerous technological advancements, now it's become possible to guide a vacuum cleaner around the living room or any other room, set up a weekly schedule, and watch the progress of cleaning on the screen of a smartphone or any other digital gadget you use. For that, you will only need to download a Google Assistant or an Amazon Alexa, depending on the software that your gadget is compatible with. Older models, though, would come with remote controls and more basic setup options.
Check what kind of brushes the chosen model of iRobot vac cleaner comes fitted with, to see whether it meets your cleaning needs. Some models are best suited for carpets, some are designed to be used on hardwood floors, while there are also those that could be used on all types of flooring, making them a universal solution. Many newer models can prioritize cleaning and detect even the tiniest specks of dirt and dust. And if you have a pet, we'd recommend you to look towards Roomba vacs that boast a strong aeroforce system giving them enough power to suck up fur clumps and dander.
Good sensors are crucial since they not only allow the cleaner to accurately avoid obstacles on the way but also enable it to create a detailed map of your house to optimize every cleanup. Some newer vacs are able to detect those zones of your house that tend to get dirty more often than the rest and focus on them. On top of that, they are able to scan the room in order to detect tiny hair and dust that could have got caught in furniture or carpets. If there aren't enough sensors in the vac or they are weak, a vacuum cleaner will struggle to handle a large area and will most likely drive continuously over the same route until it runs out of power.
As you've made a decision to buy a Roomba, it makes sense to opt for a model that requires little to none programming, making your cleanups a breeze. Some of the newer models will only require you to set up when to power them on, while others might need you to set up some other parameters such as a flooring type, the size of your house, the preferable time (day, week etc) of cleanup.
Even though most modern models are programmed to recharge automatically, the process still takes some time. Which is why it makes sense to check the time required for recharging right away, in order to make sure that you won't need to wait a whole day. Also, before buying the vacuum cleaner with the longest runtime, we'd recommend you to take into account the size of your house. If it's not that big, there's no real reason to overpay for a more expensive model. Most iRobot cleaners can run for 2 hours continuously and this time is considered to be a norm.
Did you know?
Robotic vacuum cleaners have become so commonplace that most people don’t give a second thought now to how these appliances do all that whirling in corners of the room to keep it so neat and tidy. But when you actually stop and think about it, robotic cleaners are an amazing invention, utilizing cutting-edge technology to keep us lazies happy and satisfied. How did it all begin? How long have these tiny helpers been around the US households? Let’s take a look.
A Company Is Born
Back in the distant past or, to be precise, in 1990 (almost 30 years ago now!), three MIT alumni with a passion for robotics got together and, in a daring bid for success, launched iRobot. The names of these three geniuses were Colin Angle, Helen Greiner, and Rodney Brooks and their business was, initially, aimed at creating military robots with a sparse line-up of domestic machines being developed slowly as well. Starting out with 3 bright minds, they went a long way and, these days, the company employs several hundred people.
More Than Ten Years of Protecting the Troops
The first breakthrough made by Angle, Greiner, and Brooks was Ariel. The cute name might deceive you but the device wasn’t some pool cleaning gadget. Developed via Genghis, a test platform for researchers with a strong interest in robotics, Ariel was a specialized system for mine removal, both on land and sea (do you see where the name comes from now?). The system went wide in 1996, scooped up by the military to protect the US soldiers abroad in combat situations. This brought the company renown and considerable funds, prompting them to keep growing and inventing.
Tiny in Size, Huge in Innovation
Now, as the 20th century ended and we turned over into the 21st, the company decided to branch out further into domestic products, finally offering a true home robot. In 2002, having spent a decade helping out the military, the company introduced the Roomba, a name that, in the following years, has grown to be instantly recognizable. The autonomous vacuum was a bold move, offering innovative programming to optimize cleanup and make the life of every homeowner easier. Interestingly enough, this was not actually the first robovacuum on the market with an Electrolux model introduced a year earlier. That one, however, failed to catch on, lacking the excellent programming and suction power of the iRobot product.
In just two years, a million units were sold all over the United States, the new gadget storming the market. It’s important to remember that Roombas aren’t exactly cheap and don’t fall into the “impulse buy” category, the customers thought long and hard but just couldn’t resist the pull of a hands-off cleanup.
And the Development Continues
More than 15 years later, the company shows no signs of stopping, having introduced multiple offshoots of the iconic cleaner such as the Scooba, the Dirt Dog, the Looj, and the Verro. With such innovative hits as the iRobot Roomba 980 robot vacuum, who’d even think of slowing down? Making lucrative offers to the current genius minds, merging with the competition, iRobot is not about to stop innovating. From the older 665 and 880 to the brand new 900-series, the Roombas are keeping households immaculate all over the world as well as giving your cats a fun vehicle to ride.
