PROS

This software allows previewing the video disc you've just made so that you can be sure that the quality of the picture is up to par and no artifacts have appeared in the movie. Plus, you can cut out parts of the disc that you don't find necessary, opening up possibilities for personalized DVD projects.

CONS

The process of extracting all data from the disc to a hard drive is a bit complicated.

OUR VERDICT

This is a cloning program that's compatible with pretty much all modern operating systems and has more capabilities than any of its competitors. If you're not averse to paying more to get more, this is definitely the best choice as you get the ability to edit video, split discs, merge them, copy files selectively, and more, all in one piece of software.

OUR VERDICT

The DVDFab software offers pretty expansive editing capabilities and is thus perfect for those looking to personalize their discs. You can pick and choose which parts of the original disc to leave in, including audio and subtitle tracks. While most of the functions offered by the program are available in some other software of this kind, the DVDFab manages to refine them to a whole new level.

OUR VERDICT

A basic but affordable piece of software that may be a good fit if you're not looking for that much in terms of functionality and just need to copy a slew of discs as fast as possible. OUR VERDICT

Unless you're planning to do video compression, the 123CopyDVD is a pretty good choice. It lets you rip audio and video and convert the files to a variety of popular formats for smooth playback on any device. If you're looking for deeper settings, the program allows cutting up the original disc, ripping audio tracks, and removing or adding subtitles at your leisure.

CONS

OUR VERDICT

Perfect for amateur users, the Tipard software has a simple interface that anyone can understand and peruse easily. You can choose what parts of a video DVD to leave in the copy and which to remove, including audio tracks and subtitles. OpenCloner Blu-ray and DVD Copy/Burn/Decryption Software

Copy Essentials Only

Trying to copy some old movies from the dusty DVDs lying around your home but running into roadblocks in the form of nasty encryption or annoying region locks? You’re going to either have to use some serious hacking skills and spend time breaking apart each piece of encryption or, and we definitely recommend this choice instead, buy the DVD-Cloner program, which works with both DVDs and Blu-rays and eats through locks and encryption methods like candy.

In addition to erasing the need for any third-party DVD decrypters, the DVD-Cloner also serves as a video player so you can preview the data you’re copying to prevent errors in playback and eliminate the chance of accidentally recording something that you don’t need. And, of course, it clones data in a variety of ways to meet any purpose.

Whether you want to do a straight rip of a DVD-5/9 or looking to cut up a multi-movie disc to only save the ones you like, the DVD-Cloner is up to the task. If the movie has several audio tracks or subtitles, you can choose which ones to leave and which to delete, decreasing the file size. Of course, you can also save data from the disc to your hard drive for further manipulations or just to preserve it on your computer for later use.

Review of OpenCloner Blu-ray and DVD Copy/Burn/Decryption Software

Do Your Own Thing

Using the DVD-Cloner program, you can delete menus and special features as well as getting rid of those annoying ads in front of the film. Moreover, you can split the movie into chapters or change the predetermined split or even delete the division altogether. Mash up to 6 different films together to make a sort of Blu-ray collection, which you can use as a mix-tape gift for friends or just to keep your favorites on a single disc.

If you’re looking to transfer vacation or wedding photos, you could use a basic DVD burner to create a disc with a bunch of images or, using the DVD-Cloner, you could make an artful presentation with transitions between photos, background music, and several other ways of adding personal touches.

Aside from a myriad of features, the DVD-Cloner offers much higher copying speed since it takes advantage of the modern multi-core processors. And, of course, the program is fully compatible with all popular operating systems, including Mac ones and Windows 10. Thus, you can use it on pretty much any computer without worrying about how it’s going to run and how long a single copy DVD process will take. Plus, no matter what type of DVDs you’re looking to copy, the program can read anything, including discs scratched within an inch of readability.

An Unstoppable Copier

So if you’re looking for the program with the highest amount of features that will also work on any OS regardless of what type of computer you’re using, the DVD-Cloner is definitely the best DVD copy software out there. It works fast, can clone data both from DVDs and Blu-rays, and doesn’t stop in the face of any encryption or region locking. While the program has its flaws, they are quite insubstantial compared to the capabilities it offers to a skilled user. You can preserve your sensitive information, copy movies, and store data whether you’re on PC or Mac, the DVD-Cloner won’t restrict you in any way.

DVDFab Blu-ray Ripper

Looks Good, Works Better

Got a lot of movies on DVD that you want to make backup copies of? It’s a smart decision as discs aren’t the most durable storage format out there but doing so would take a lot of time and not all films will let you make a clone of them due to encryption. However, if you don’t mind paying once for lifetime access to multifunctional DVD data manipulation, you can bypass issues like these with the DVDFab 10 copying software.

You’re not going to need any technical know-how to break through encryption on discs no matter what kind of protection is being used as the DVDFab simplifies the process down to a few mouse clicks. In fact, the interface of the program is very user-friendly and makes movie-ripping easier, though you will still need to take some time to learn about all of the functions on the display here. But it’s not like you’ll be making complicated projects your first few times around and the more basic features are easy to get the hang of. However, once you’ve mastered the program, you get all the capabilities of other more expensive software with an eye-pleasing UI.

For your first few copying tasks, you can simply take your time and learn how to split a copied film into chapters or how to delete menus and unnecessary featurettes from the disc, all of which you can do with the DVDFab.

Review of DVDFab Blu-ray Ripper

Lossless Wins the Race

Users that want the highest possible video quality will be pleased to know that the DVDFab lets you do a straight 1:1 copy of a disc with almost no compression. This means that you can clone the film several times without ending up with muted colors, low-quality image, or artifacts disrupting the movie. You can also try to play around with the data to compress it a bit for a disc with less space than the original one and the movie should still look pretty good, though that kind of task will require more intimate knowledge of the program. Regardless of whether you’re cloning a disc or doing a partial transfer, it seems to take just above 30 minutes, which is not the fastest ever but still a pretty respectable time.

And, of course, you get the benefit of speedy and comprehensive live support including phone lines and chats, so you can choose which format suits you best. Before you turn to the support line though, do give a try to the tutorials, which may not cover all of the questions that could arise but are still quite helpful and will show you the ropes if you’re new to DVD copying. Since most functions in the program are automatized, you’re not even going to need that much help, just a few tips on what features are available and how to access them properly.

DVDFab Blu-ray Ripper in the use

Imperfect but Definitely Great

In the end, while we do wish that the DVDFab could tackle more than just the basic tasks, it still excels at the offered features and offers copying of both DVDs and Blu-ray discs. The editing capabilities are quite powerful for a regular data copying program and the numerous output formats are sure to win over even a picky user. You can pick and choose which audio tracks and subtitles you want, what movies to rip from a multi-film disc, and which menus to leave in while cutting some others out. The DVDFab 10 may not offer that much more than other software of this kind but in a competitive industry, even these few advantages put it a step above many others.

Digiarty DVD Copy Pro + DVD Ripper Platinum

Simple Copying with Guaranteed Quality

If you’re not too interested in anything deeper than simple cloning of DVDs and only want a program that is guaranteed to work on any OS or computer, we recommend the Digiarty WinX copy maker. This software might not offer the bells and whistles of its more expensive competitors but it does what you need and does it reasonably well, a sensible if a bit basic choice.

Most users looking to copy movies run into problems with encryption with Disney films being the worst offenders of this, notoriously tough to back up even after you purchase the disc. And since the House of Mouse is slowly getting its hands on all media properties, you’re going to need some powerful encryption-bypass software to make backups. The Digiarty WinX copier does just that, requiring no effort on the part of the user. The program automatically gets through any protection without damaging the files or leaving gaps in the cloned information.

While the software is incapable of compressing data to fit onto smaller discs and cutting up a DVD’s contents to choose what you want to leave on the new copy, it does help the user remove regional locking, one of the most notorious headaches for anybody that’s travelled and ended up with a player incapable of running their movie collection.

Review of Digiarty DVD Copy Pro + DVD Ripper Platinum

Fast Data Cloning on Any OS

Of course, you don’t have to rip the contents of a disc straight to a different one right away. Instead, you can convert the data into an ISO file, a sort of archive that exists as a full copy of the original disc. At any later point in time, you can take that image and burn it onto one of your empty DVDs, cloning the information without even necessarily having the original DVD at your disposal, be it stolen, lost, or given away.

The Digiarty Winx DVD Copy works reasonably fast, taking about 40-45 minutes to burn a full uncompressed copy of a single disc. This is on par with some of the more expensive programs and we wish we could say the same about the other functions of the software. You don’t get a chance to edit the video, delete the unnecessary menus, or choose what parts you’ll be keeping or leaving.

So, you can clearly see that the Digiarty WinX is intended for basic data cloning and its strengths lie in a reasonably speedy copying, high-quality transfers, and compatibility with pretty much all Windows OSs that are still being used. Whether you’re running a Windows XP computer or have a high-tech Windows 10 laptop, you can take advantage of Digiarty WinX’s powers to back up any movies you have in your home collection.

Digiarty DVD Copy Pro + DVD Ripper Platinum in the use

Basic but High-Quality

We would have preferred for the Digiarty WinX copier to have more than the standard features which you can find in a variety of other software but it’s a pretty affordable program and thus wins over the expensive ones. However, it’s far from the best since you can’t even compress the files from a DVD-9 to fit onto a DVD-5, a function that should come with all software of this type. Still, the program clones data well and isn’t stopped by any encryption or region locking, making it a good choice for movie backups. Plus, you can use it to copy DVD discs on Windows 10 and older OSs without any compatibility issues. Not our top pick but still a sensible purchase.

123CopyDVD Backup and Burn Any DVD

Compatibility for All

Looking to do more with your software than just clone old movie discs? You might be interested in the 123 Copy DVD Gold, an all-in-one DVD burner, copier, editor, and an all-around playground for data backup.

Of course, this kind of built-in power results in an interface that’s a bit more complicated than usual with numerous menus and options available. You’ll have to take some time to learn every single thing the program can do but it’s going to be worth it once you’re slicing up movies as you want, copying data, burning ISO images, and making backups of whichever discs you have in your collection.

Just to give you a quick idea of the conversion powers you get with the 123CopyDVD, here’s a quick list of the devices that the program supports: all Apple and Android tablets and phones, BlackBerry smartphones, PSP, PS3, Xbox 360, and even Zune. Of course, with the right codec selection you can play back the ripped videos on your Smart TV but you’ll have to make sure that the formats are compatible first.

One thing that might cause some grumbling is that the 123CopyDVD requires you to download a plugin before it’s able to decrypt protected discs. Of course, the software gives you the link and you only have to do a single download but we found it strange that the plugin wasn’t included with the program.

Review of 123CopyDVD Backup and Burn Any DVD

Slow and Steady, Your Copy's Ready!

If you want to just do a straight 1:1 clone of a DVD disc to a blank one, nobody’s going to stop you even though you’d be missing out on numerous features such as the ability to create your own disc menu, add audio, and customize the disc to add a personal touch. However, we do want to warn you that a full unaltered copy takes about 80 minutes, surprisingly long for a program that’s otherwise no slouch in terms of technical specs. A compressed clone takes only 30 minutes but you lose quite a lot in quality so we wouldn’t recommend doing this unless you urgently need a copy and don’t care that much about how good the video will look in the end.

By the way, the 123CopyDVD lets you clone more than just DVDs as you can rip music from audio CDs, saving your favorite albums on your hard drive. The songs can be converted to all popular formats such as MP3, FLAC, WAV, and AAC, leaving them compatible with pretty much any music-playing device. And the data you end up with, whether it’s music, video, or something else, can be burned onto both DVDs and Blu-ray discs, letting you upgrade old movies to the new generation of storage. With Blu-ray compatibility, you can keep several different movies or over 20 music albums as backups on a single disc.

123CopyDVD Backup and Burn Any DVD in the use

Flawed but Gold

Any user looking to archive data beyond some old Disney cartoons, should seriously consider getting the 123CopyDVD, which allows you to rip audio CDs, download online video for further burning to discs, edit movies or DVD images, cut out unnecessary featurettes and menus, and much, much more. It’s definitely on the slower side but you get so many capabilities that they outweigh this con. We’d only advise against using the compression feature unless you really have to. The quality you end up with makes the backup look noticeably worse than the original, which goes against the very purpose of data cloning. Other than that though, the 123CopyDVD is a fine example of DVD copying software, a diamond in the rough with most edges smoothed.

Tipard DVD Cloner 6 Lifetime License

Easy Choice for Fast Copying

Lack the technological knowledge required to use most of the data-cloning software and want a program that’s easy to use while still getting the same results? You’ve come to the right page then because the Tipard DVD Cloner 6 may just be what you’ve been looking for.

After you load up the software and put the source DVD into the drive, you’ll see a window with three copy settings, letting you choose whether to clone the whole contents, just the movie, or to do a custom copy, an option best suited for those that know their way around the software.

You’ll be happy to know that this is one of the speedier copying programs out there, taking around 25-40 minutes to clone a single disc, pretty impressive and definitely on par with the competition and more.

A word of warning, though, don’t try to copy a full DVD-9 disc onto a blank DVD-5 one as the program will automatically do content compression and, while the process will go through as intended, you're not too likely to enjoy the result. The Tipard DVD Cloner 6 seems to have poorly optimized compression algorithms, resulting in pixelated images, distortion, and artifacts all across the movie. We’d recommend sticking to the full high-quality copy option instead.

Review of Tipard DVD Cloner 6 Lifetime License

Preserve Data Your Own Way

Some people don’t find DVD discs all that reliable to begin with and may thus want to keep the data and movies on their hard drive, where they’re a bit safer. Of course, the Tipard DVD Cloner 6 can help you with that task as well. The program is capable of ripping entire discs into ISO files, a carbon copy of the original, which can be then burned onto a blank DVD at any later point. That way you keep the information but don’t necessarily need to have the original disc lying around collecting dust and getting scratched.

To make sure that you can play the movies you clone on any of your devices, including consoles and such, you’ll have to remove the region lock protection, built into most discs by default. Lucky for you, though, the Tipard DVD Cloner 6 takes care of that as well, stripping the data of cumbersome encryption and guaranteeing that your kids will always be able to watch their favorite cartoons even if your player isn’t from the “right” region.

When you’ve spent some time with the program, you’re probably going to want to do more than just straight up copies of discs and the Tipard Cloner certainly won’t stop you. With the custom settings, you can select menus, audio tracks, and any other parts of the film that you want to leave in or out of the new disc. For example, you could remove all audio tracks that aren’t in your native language, saving space for some other, more useful featurettes.

Tipard DVD Cloner 6 Lifetime License in the use

Sometimes Simple is Better

Unless you’re looking to pack as much media as possible onto a single disc, the Tipard DVD Cloner 6 is an alright choice, though it does have some shortcomings. The lack of Blu-ray compatibility and the poor compression quality certainly leave some room for improvement but they’re not enough to write off this speedy data cloner. It’s a good choice for an amateur user thanks to the simple interface and one-click copying that requires no technical know-how or prior experience with the program. Whether you’re on a PC or on a Mac, the software will work just fine thanks to its compatibility with most modern OSs, including Windows 10.

What Is DVD Copy Software?

Have some old movies on DVDs that are already barely readable after many years of watching, the discs scratched beyond repair? Nobody wants to lose the films from their childhood or, for that matter, any important data that people have been storing on DVDs for years now. That’s exactly what the DVD copying programs help to prevent. Using this type of software you can move information from one disc to another, cloning it to give copies to your friends or just to preserve data. You can also copy DVD to a hard drive if you want to keep the data stored on your PC for later use. Moreover, you can burn the info from a DVD to a Blu-ray disc, which can hold more data and thus be used as a vessel for several DVDs at once. Convert movies, music, and any type of files whichever way you want, all with one basic program.

With this type of software, you can transfer decades-old data to a new format. Just couple this type of program with, for example, VHS to DVD software and you can move old movies from VHS tapes to Blu-ray discs, storing many at once. Of course, you’ll also need a Blu-ray player to watch the resulting projects.
