What customers say about "Key Specs"
Epson Perfection V550 Photo Scanner
  • For older pictures or documeents you can adjust the resolution. I keep it on 300 DPI for most scans. Produces good results at a reasonable time.
  • The scanner is fast if one selects a lower resolution. Photos can be scanned at 300 dpi or 600 dpi and 24-bit color.
  • When scanning film or slides, 1200 dpi or 2400 dpi and 48-bit color should be the norm. Takes about 17 minutes to scan four slides.
  • Don't buy the Epson Imperfection V550 if you need high quality scans. I'm scanning in photos and negatives at high resolution and need a clean scan. However the scanner has big dust particles on the under side of the glass inside the machine where it can't be cleaned.
  • Scanned some 35mm on it at full resolution and the scans seemed dull, flat, almost down-right fuzzy. At full resolution this guy is down right cumbersome in operation and the result are fit merely for small-print family mementos and no more.
Epson Perfection V700 Photo Scanner
  • At 4800dpi,(6400 seems like overkill and photo-i's reviews indicate 4800 seems to be optimal) from a 35mm transparency you get approximately a 50mb file!
  • I have produced remarkable photos at 3200 dpi resolution, can't imagine what the full 12000 dpi would be. I have not copied B&W negatives yet, but see no reason to be concerned.
  • The biggest advantage is that I can set it up to work with 12 slides at a time using the supplied holder, and still get extraordinarily high resolution images of 5 to 8 mbytes - and I'm using the 6400dpi setting - there's still a 9600 and 12800.
  • I just purchased the Epson Perfection V700 Photo Color Scanner a few weeks ago, to scan 4 x 5 negatives. I needed them to be at a higher resolution because I have the images printed on glass at 4 ft x 5 ft. This scanner is efficient enough to complete such a task.
  • The scan quality is exceptional; far beyond what I was expecting. All the flaws in my past film photography are painfully evident.

What customers say about "Scanning"
Epson Perfection V550 Photo Scanner
  • High-quality scans for a flatbed scanner at its price. Can scan slides, negatives, and medium-format film as well as prints. Digital ICE hardware-based dust removal for film. Can upload scans directly to Facebook and cloud-based services.
  • As for the scanning and features, I love it! Have been scanning tons of old negatives and photos from an inherited collection, and am extremely happy with the speed and quality of the images.
  • Great scanner. Scans multiple photos at once. Photos look good. Works with mac.
  • The Epson does a good job of color and brightness correction and I only touched up a couple of the slides that were not perfect exposures to start with. It will scan 4 slides at a time. It takes about 2-3 minutes to scan and save the 4 slides at a resolution good enough for 4x6 prints.
  • This scanner works beautifully. Quick, high resolution scans. Easy to install, but be sure to download the driver from the epson website.
Epson Perfection V700 Photo Scanner
  • This scanner does an excellant job and allows one to correct slide problems before the final copy. And the ICE feature does a remarkable job in producing clean images.
  • I deliberated a while before getting this scanner, comparing reviews for other Epson and Canon scanners. So far I am really impressed. Have used it mainly to scan 6x6 and 4x5 negs and trannies, also positive images.
  • Quality of scans is good, but have upped to 600dpi on the auto setting, to get better quality. That setting allows multiple photos to be done at once, each saved as a separate file, as long as they are not too close together or overlapping.
  • The scan quality has been excellent - much better than I was expecting from a flatbed. The color reproduction has been extremely accurate and the level of detail is superb.
  • I bought this scanner to digatize old photos and slides. I think it does a great job. It's pretty putzie to go through all the steps to get the scans if you want high quality.

What customers say about "Features"
Epson Perfection V550 Photo Scanner
  • Easy to install software & set up. Packaging protects device from damage. Hinge stays open on 2 angles.
  • Software was easy to install and fairly easy to execute. Take the time to read the instructions before you start. This will save you a lot of time and make the process much easier. Scans are clear.
  • If you are scanning a lot of pictures at first, you can create folders in your pictures file, then drag and drop as the scanner goes to the next picture.
  • HUGE. You need a lot of room. It seems to think it knows what should be turned (lots of pics put in correctly get turned upside down). Overall, happy with the product.
  • Assembly of the scanner was NOT in a dust free environment as other have noted! Rather large footprint taking up space on my desk; but it is not too heavy to move around or store until needed.
Epson Perfection V700 Photo Scanner
  • The Epson, Silverlight and Abbyy OCR software - all of which are included - are impressive. Both the Epson and Silverlight take a little tweaking - I have not yet fully fathomed all they may be capable of. I love this scanner.
  • I have several hundred slides from the 50's on Kodachrome. This thing scans them like a boss. They snap into the provided tray, and I use Vuescan to turn those mothers into JPEGs for me. It's like the best thing ever. The quality is absolutely gorgeous.
  • Batch scanning works great. Bundled software works well
  • The biggest problem - as with all flatbeds - is dust; it is difficult to keep it completely off the glass, so it often shows up in scans.
  • Noisy at times
  • Large footprint on desk
