Eva-dry E-333

Silica Gel for Moisture Control

If you look for a mess-free, non-toxic, and cost-effective way to reduce excess humidity at your place, the Eva-dry E-333 is a go-to option. It's an advanced dehumidifier that uses the renewable silica gel technology that requires neither batteries nor power.

If you're not familiar with this simple system, we'll shed some light on it. The EVA-Dry product uses an internal packet of pure silica gel beads that are highly hygroscopic (they really love water). These beads act like little "molecular sponges" that suck water from the air and absorb it into the pack.

When they absorb excess humidity, they turn from their normal yellow to dark green. And that means they are full of moisture and it's high time to dry them out, or as the manufacturer calls it - "recharge"... spin it any way you want, the beads just need to be dried out.

Once it happens, you'll need to bring the unit into a well-ventilated area and plug it in. After 8 to 10 hours, the crystals will turn back to orange, identifying they are ready to be used again. No cords, no more power needed. This process can be repeated for up to 10 years.

Review of Eva-dry E-333 Rechargeable Dehumidifier

Best For

Humidity is everywhere - it can be found in your closet, balcony, under the kitchen sink, not to mention your bathroom. And if you're here, you probably know that too much humidity can turn into a real nightmare. Understanding this, the folks behind Eva-Dry have made the E-333 dehumidifier safe, efficient, silent and adaptable.

It can absorb approximately 8 to 10 ounces of moisture for up to ten years non-stop. And once the moisture has been absorbed, it won't leak or spill so as not to damage clothes or other objects nearby.

To sum it all up, the Eva-dry renewable dehumidifier is a top-quality product manufactured at the highest standard. It comes equipped with an industry leading 5-year warranty and a 10-year lifespan. It's a very effective cordless dehumidifier that offers brilliant simplicity and up to 333 cu. ft. coverage.

Pro Breeze PB-04

Good Problem Solver

The Pro Breeze Renewable Cordless Mini Dehumidifier is another great humidity problem solver. This is a small, inexpensive product that packs a punch. Even if you live in an extremely humid climate, it can suck in a lot of excess moisture and solve your mildew problems.

The unit can absorb up to 5 ounces of moisture, which equals 20 - 30 days of operation before renewing depending on your room conditions. It really does a decent job and is quite easy to use. Just set it and forget it!

Although it's claimed to remove humidity from areas up to 333 sq. ft, we found it great for keeping optimal humidity levels in smaller spaces. It’s compact, portable and can stand up in virtually any angle you need it to. Also, you can lie it down flat, sit it on its side, or sit it straight up - it won't fall over. This nice design makes it a good fit for wardrobes, cabinets, jewelry boxes, gym bags, closets, chests, safety boxes, trunks, and even dashboards.

It is completely silent and there are no lights or noise when it's working. You will only know that it's full of moisture when the indicator turns from orange to green. If it's solid orange, it means the crystals are dry and ready for work. If the beads are solid green, it's time to plug in the unit so as to dry them back out.

Review of Pro Breeze PB-04 Rechargeable Dehumidifier

Neat Design

The period of time before you need to recharge the product depends on how humid the environment is. In most places, it will work for a month or more. However, if there is poor ventilation and too much humidity, it may need to be recharged after a week. On the bright side, the recharging is easy. All you need to do is unfold the plug on the back of the unit and plug it into any outlet. A big advantage is that the device is cordless so no wires will be in your way.

It will take a good while for the Pro Breeze dehumidifier to dry out the silica gel beads. Be prepared to leave it plugged in up to 24 hours until it gets fully dry. And take note that if you don't want the water trapped in the crystals to be released back into your house, it's better to plug it in your garage or some other place. Once renewed, the plug will fold nicely into the dehumidifier, giving it a sleek, compact look.

This Pro Breeze mini dehumidifier can be used, reused, and used again for many years to come. So, it's a good investment in keeping small spaces free of humidity.

Gurin DHMD-110

Rapid Moisture Absorbtion

The Gurin DHMD-110 is one of the least expensive dehumidifiers that use silica gel on the market today. Yet, it even outpaces its competitors in terms of capacity and absorption speed.

The Gurin states that this dehumidifier can remove up to 10 ounces of moisture per one charge. The manufacturer also says that it will take from 6 to 8 weeks to reach this capacity. However, all of this depends on the spaces you're going to use it in. For instance, if you place the unit in a room or closet with airflow, you shouldn't expect it to last very long before recharging. This is especially true if you're going to use it in a damp environment like a bathroom or basement.

By the way, the dehumidifier adsorbs moisture very rapidly and is effective enough to keep the moisture off the windows and mirrors in a bathroom. Also, it can prevent mold everywhere, from a small dresser drawer to an outdoor shed. The manufacturer says it works in any 500 cu. ft. area, however, it's a slight exaggeration. The unit doesn’t come equipped with fans to move the air around so as to dehumidify all that sizable area. It should be used in small spaces. Still, you can always buy a couple of them to cover large areas.

Review of Gurin DHMD-110 Rechargeable Dehumidifier

Design Peculiarities

As mentioned, the desiccant crystals can absorb moisture from the air over the course of a week or even a month. And at the point when it becomes completely saturated with moisture, the front indicator changes the color from blue to pink. When it happens, you’ll need to plug the unit into a wall outlet for 12-14 hours to renew it. The silica gel will heat up and release all the moisture it had previously absorbed.

The only criticism is that the manufacturer warns you that the dehumidifier should be charged in the vertical position, but the cord comes out of the bottom of the unit, which makes it nearly impossible to place it correctly. Also, the unit has no built-in compartment for cord storage.

On the bright side, the dehumidifier comes with a "hanger" that you can slot into any hole. Plus, it allows you to suspend the unit while recharging.

All things considered, it's a nice dehumidifier that can absorb quite a lot of moisture rapidly. It's now one of the least expensive models that use silica gel.

Covader Small

Good Alternative

If you feel that it's high time to replace hanging dehumidifying chemical bags with something more solid, we kindly offer you to consider the Covader Small Dehumidifier. It's a great alternative to disposable crystal packets, which won't cost you an arm and leg. Available at less than $20, it can work up to an incredible 10 years.

Made of 13X molecular sieve moisture-absorption material, it can even perform better after each "rejuvenation". The hygroscopic capacity of 250 C.C. is enough to remove moisture from spaces up to 110 sq. ft. And even though this coverage area may seem too small for use in bathrooms or basements, it's more than enough for closets, gun safes, cabinets, closets, pianos, RVs, boats, and more. It does a great job keeping the humidity at about 40%, which is considered to be an optimal level for most items.

Unluckily, the manufacturer doesn’t tell users how long the dehumidifier will take to reach its full capacity. But we can assume that the moisture removal rate is similar to most other devices of its type - the Covader takes about a month to reach its capacity.

Review of Covader Small Rechargeable Dehumidifier

Energy Efficient

The Covader works in much the same way as other rechargeable dehumidifiers - it uses a renewable silica gel that needs no power to absorb the moisture. Therefore, it works silently and is perfect for use even in a small nursery. By the way, it looks very stylish and won't be out of place.

There is an indicator window that changes from orange to dark green once the unit has reached its 8.5-ounce capacity. And once the beads have changed to dark green, you should plug it in for 8 - 12 hours in a well-ventilated area. It uses just 22 Watts of power, so it'll take only 0.4 kWh of electricity per one restoration session.

All things considered, the Covader Dehumidifier is a stylish little thing that will look nice anywhere. With effective removal of excess humidity out of your place, it can make the living environment much healthier.

Remington 365

Keep your Guns Safe

The Remington Mini Dehumidifier is a rechargeable appliance produced by one of the leading American firearm manufacturers. The company deeply specializes in guns and knows how to keep these weapons safe. This dehumidifier was specifically designed to protect the steel and wooden parts of guns from moisture damage.

So, if you have some amounts of rust on your precious gun, you can benefit from using this Remington dehumidifier. With it, your gun collection will become spotless in the shortest time possible. It does its job very quietly, since there is no motor to disturb you.

For your convenience, the 365 model has its own hook for hanging in a gun safe. Plus, it has several notches in the base so that the hanger can be angled slightly. This will help you keep the unit up and out of the way.

Naturally, this gun safe dehumidifier can be also used in other enclosed storage areas such as tool cabinets, closets, car salons, and the like.

Review of Remington 365 Rechargeable Dehumidifier

Self Contained

Like other similar dehumidifiers, this model uses the colorless, odorless nontoxic crystals that are constantly absorbing moisture from the air. When they are completely dry, the indicator window shows blue, but once the crystals have soaked up moisture, it turns pink. This usually takes from 30 to 60 days.

To regenerate the unit, you won't need to deal with cords and extensions. It's a self-contained unit with a pop-out plug. Recharging lasts about 10-12 hours, and after that, the unit is ready for action again.

All in all, it's a perfect mini dehumidifier designed specifically for keeping guns rust-free. You can just place/hang it in your gun safe and forget about it. Every couple of months you'll only need to plug in the device. But, agree, that is a very small price to pay.

What Is a Rechargeable Dehumidifier?

Nobody likes excess humidity. In addition to just being very uncomfortable, it can contribute to low energy levels and lethargy, cause our bodies to overheat and bring many other health issues. Moreover, high levels of humidity in your house or office can cause nasty smells, mold, and mildew.

Fortunately, buying a dehumidifier can easily bring the humidity around you to normal levels. However, if buying a bulky machine is not an option, a rechargeable mini dehumidifier is a way out. It's a small, moisture-absorbing device that needs no electricity. It's usually filled with silica gel crystals that slowly yet effectively absorbs excess moisture.

Evidently, they are smaller than their corded counterparts but serve their purpose well, solving mild humidity problems in your house. Hydrosorbent dehumidifiers can protect your closets, gun safes, bathrooms, and basements from condensation, corrosion, mildew, and fogging. They are wireless devices that need connection to electricity only once or twice in a month for renewing.

Rechargeable dehumidifiers are very easy to handle and don’t occupy a lot of your precious space, yet can save you a lot of discomfort in your everyday life. However, if you have to deal with plenty of moisture all around your house, we'd recommend you to get a full-size dehumidifier.

What Features to Compare

Before moving to useful tips on how to choose the perfect rechargeable dehumidifier, we would like to explain how this stuff works. Rechargeable dehumidifiers are filled with some absorbent material (usually it's silica gel crystals) that extracts water from the air. In other words, they operate in a similar way to a sponge.

Rechargeable dehumidifiers work equally well at any temperature and any humidity unlike other types of dehumidifiers. They are pretty versatile and can work fantastically in small spaces.

Size and Capacity

This is probably the main aspect you should look for in a renewable dehumidifier. It describes how many ounces of water it's able to extract. And the more water it's able to hold, the longer it will serve without recharging. For example, if you're going to put a dehumidifier on your dashboard to prevent odd odors and fogging in your car, you don't need to opt for a bulky and capacious model. An 8.5-oz capacity device will be more than enough for that need. The same goes for small closets, gun safes, and cabinets. However, if you're going to use in your garage or storage shed to prevent rusting of equipment, you'll need a larger model.

Remember that the best-sized dehumidifier for your needs depends on the size of the space you want to use it in. So, always check the recommended coverage prior to purchase. As a general rule, if you're searching for a dehumidifier to dry out your whole bathroom or bedroom, you'll need a dehumidifier with a larger capacity, or even a couple of them.

Design

If you're not going to hide your dehumidifier in a closet but display it on your desk or bed table, design may play an important role. The device should be aesthetically nice so that it won't look out of place in your room.

Also, you should consider the cord length and whether the unit has an onboard compartment for it. That is to say, some dehumidifiers come with pop-out plugs that can be neatly folded into the body after recharging.

Recharge Time

The recharge time shows how much time the dehumidifier will need to get back to work. By recharging, we mean the process of heating up the crystals so that they get completely dry again. It's better to do that outside or at least in your garage, as all the trapped moisture will be released in the air.

Did you know?

Ideal Humidity Level for Our Health

Humidity is a strange thing - allow it to get too high and different issues like hyperthermia will crop up, but let it drop too low, and new surprising problems will rear their heads. That’s why it’s very important to keep your living environment at a specific range of humidity.

According to the ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers), the optimal humidity level for the living environment is somewhere between 30 - 60% (relative humidity). The ideal is 45-55%. For people suffering from asthma and some other respiratory problems, the humidity level should not exceed 50%.

Importantly, the said ideal humidity range is true for all home's inhabitants, both living and inanimate. People, books, electronics, furniture, equipment - they all have their optimal humidity range that, luckily, overlaps.

Hazards of High Humidity

Very high humidity levels have an adverse effect on the human body. In normal conditions, our body regulates the internal temperature by releasing sweat when we heat up. This sweat is evaporated from our skin, thus, cooling the body off. But if the air has an excess moisture content, the sweat just cannot evaporate, leaving our body too hot and sticky. As a result, our bodies must work even harder to cool down. This leads to excessive sweating, increased pulse, high blood circulation, and increased respiration. Excessive sweating in its turn may cause a loss of water and dehydration hazardous for our health. The health risks which result from excess humidity include hyperthermia, muscle cramps, fatigue, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and fainting.

However, too high humidity brings detrimental effect not only on humans. It contributes to corrosion, the growth of mold, mildew, funguses, dust mites, and other pests.

That said, low humidity also poses some health risks. Dry eyes and itchy skin conditions are aggravated by low humidity. Also, dry air can inflame the mucous membrane lining our respiratory tract. Therefore, the risk of cold, flu and other respiratory illnesses is substantially increased. Plus, many viruses survive longer in low humidity.

That’s why controlling the humidity is essential for your well-being, and a good hygrometer can help you with that.

What Is Silica Gel and Its Properties?

Silica gel is a form of silicon dioxide, the same material found in quartz. Silica gel is just a porous form of sand. It’s a good natural desiccant that effectively absorbs and holds water vapor. Silica gel is able to absorb about 40% of its weight in moisture and can lower the relative humidity to about 40%. Once saturated, it should be heated up to 300 degrees F to drive the moisture off. That’s why rechargeable dehumidifiers need to be plugged in for some time to restore their absorbing properties. They have a heating element that warms up silica gel to those 300 degrees F.
