If you’re trying to replicate a vintage atmosphere in your living room, you’re going to need a retro-stylized barometer, something that is reasonably large to put on a wall and, ideally, something that is made of wood. The Fischer Instruments 1436R-12 which has a wooden frame and a heavy cast brass dial matches this description perfectly. Looking at this barometer, you will always have a feeling as if you are in a captain's cabin somewhere on a swaying ship amid stormy seas.
Of course, the Fischer Instruments 1436R-12 is more than just a nice piece of decor as the device can not only show pressure measurements both in metric and imperial units for your convenience but also show them with a high level of precision. For those who've never read a barometer before the dial comes with clear directions showing what those measurements mean so you can predict the weather forecast without any gambling.

Overall, if what you're searching for is a vintage-style barometer to keep track of changes in air pressure, the 1436R-12 may prove to be an ideal choice for you. It works as well as any digital models and its appearance will always invite admiring looks.
Ambient Weather WS-2801
All Weather Data in a Small Package
For those of us being firmly planted in the digital age, a basic wall-mounted barometer may be not enough. How about a multi-functional tool that is able to offer more than just pressure measurements? We can definitely see appeal in that which is exactly why we'd like to recommend you the Ambient Weather WS-2801.
On top of its compact dimensions and modern-looking design, this digital barometer has quite a lot to offer in terms of features. In addition to showing the indoor and outdoor temperature, the Ambient Weather WS-2801 can read humidity levels and dew point in both locations, making it much more universal than many other barometers. Also, this model has multiple alarms, which means you can have different alerts to each of measured parameters. And if you have trouble with oversleeping, the Ambient Weather can be used as an alarm clock to wake you up in the mornings or to remind you of particular events.
The setup of the Ambient Weather WS-2801 is easy. All you'll need to do is insert lithium batteries in the sensor unit and the device will automatically start to work. Calibration is not required, although if you'd like the device to provide accurate readings we'd recommend you to fine tune it using some reliable source. The main unit works off the mains and an AC adapter comes included with the purchase.

Ambient Weather WS-152B
A Pocket-Sized Key to Weather Forecasts
Not everybody wants to keep something as simple as a barometer on a display and that's why many manufacturers produce their pocket versions which can be easily tucked away. The Ambient Weather WS-152B is one of the most successful of them which we've decided to bring on this review.
As basic as it is, this aneroid barometer has a beautiful six-inch bezel made of aluminum that comes covered with metric units on the inside and the imperial ones on the outside. The display of the device is a mixture of silver and deep black that is user-friendly and easy to read, due to the big marks. The only problem you may face with the device featuring polished exterior is that it tends to collect dust and all fingerprints are visible on its surface, which means you'll need to regularly wipe it with a cloth.
The Ambient Weather WS-152B is easy to calibrate, thanks to the set screw which comes with the purchase. Just rotate the hand to the current barometric pressure and you’re set! This barometer shows precise measurement at an elevation of up to 3,000 feet and hence, can be used almost anywhere the USA. However, it’s intended for indoor measurements only and might go haywire if you locate it outside to measure outdoor temperature and air pressure.
Summing up, despite the fact that the Ambient Weather WS-152B has no many features, it's a solid choice for those searching for a beautiful, pocket-size barometer. Reasonably-priced, it will come in handy on many occasions.
Check Weather Conditions on the Go
Ever had a family trip or picnic ruined by unexpected rain? Or maybe a day at the beach went sour as the clouds covered the sky? Don’t worry, the TecScan FUNcaster will keep you updated on the weather forecast and help you plan the day so that you get every last ray of the sun.
The peculiar feature of this barometer is its display that comes divided into several areas with each showing a certain portion of information regarding the weather such as humidity, temperature, pressure, forecast, and graphic depiction of current conditions. The numbers and the icons are big enough to see them clearly without squinting, though we do wish the model had some sort of backlighting so that it'd be easier to see the screen even when it's dark outside.
The TecScan FUNcaster takes standard AAA batteries and comes with a set out-of-the-box. Though the batteries hold pretty long on average, we recommend you to keep track of their condition and change them on time. The thing is when the batteries start to run out, the measured data may start getting a bit unprecise and unless you want to get caught in the rain it is important to make sure that the device functions properly.
One thing that didn't quite come to our liking is the fact that the TecScan FUNcaster has only metric units with no option to switch to imperial ones. And while it's not difficult to adjust to the system, a setting to swap between the two would have been a great benefit.
To summarize, we’re not over the moon about the TecScan FUNcaster but it’s definitely one of the better portable barometers out there that you can use to plan trips and check out the weather forecast with reasonable precision. If you think you're going to need to use this barometer in the dusk, a small flashlight might be a good pairing for it.
TRAC-Outdoor Products T3002
Gotta Catch 'Em All
What’s a better way to spend your weekend than to go fishing? The quiet buzzing of insects as you float in your boat in the middle of the river, the tug on your spinning reel as fish gets caught. All this makes up for a wonderful leisure away from the hustle and bustle of the city. However, if you want to return home with a great take of fish, you simply cannot overlook the importanсe of changes in barometric pressure. That's exactly why we recommend a specialized TRAC-Outdoor Products T3002, a pocket barometer designed specifically for avid fishermen.
The advantage of this model over many similar barometers is that it has water protection, meaning it can be safely used in the boat and withstand light splashing of water. That said, we'd advise against submerging it in water, although the device has a special aperture allowing it to stay afloat if it's been dropped into the river. Thanks to this, it won't sink and you'll have a chance to retrieve it with ease.
While the TRAC-Outdoor is a standard aneroid barometer, its display is what sets it apart from many similar models. Unlike other barometers, the screen here is colorful and divided into several zones each representing a certain level of pressure showing you how good or bad the timing is for fishing. This way, you can learn to predict the fish behavior and know with precision whether it's worth (or not) extending your trip. However, when you're using the barometer, try not to let your boat sway too much as moving off the current point can throw the measurements off and require re-calibration.
Despite these few flaws, we find the TRAC-Outdoor Products T3002 to be a great choice for fishermen that want to boost their catch.
What Is a Barometer?
The answer to the question "What is a barometer exactly?" is simple. It is a device that's designed for measuring the atmospheric/barometric pressure, the pressure which directly affects the weather, behavior of animals, and well-being of human beings. Barometers have been in use for centuries and have found application not only in meteorology but also in everyday life, serving as an instrument for predicting trends in pressure changes, tracking fish, and much more.
Despite the emergence of many new ways of predicting the weather forecast, barometers for home use still remain quite popular. They come in different designs and shapes and can serve not only as an instrument for measuring the pressure but also as an element of decor if you'd like to add some decorative touch to your living space. Most models presented on the modern market can be divided into digital barometers with sleek interfaces and aneroid ones with a classic design, so you can choose the most suitable one depending on the purpose of use and place of installation.
After you choose a barometer, we recommend you to take a look at our review of the best hygrometers which can be used for determining humidity levels in your home. And if you've noticed that you or someone from your family often has headaches, we'd like to offer you to consider buying an EMF meter, a special device aimed at measuring electromagnetic fields that are harmful to our health.
