Redline Bikes MX24

This Bike Can Take a Beating

The Redline company has been producing high-end bicycles and accessories for long years. But not everybody knows that the company also manufactures bikes with “Flight” frames called “MX”. The Redline MX-24 race model is one of them. While featuring a few Hi-Tensile parts, this cruiser is very lightweight, agile and highly responsive on the road.

The Redline MX-24 race cruiser comes almost race-ready out-of-the-box and needs just a quick assembly, which can be done without assistance in 10-15 minutes. All the parts included feel sturdy, function well, and seem to be made to serve you for ages. The only gripe we have is a pivotal race settle. While being perfect for racing, it might feel uncomfortable for long leisure strolls. Other than that, the Redline MX-24 hardly has any flaws. Fitted with a high-quality 3-piece crank set, integrated headset, and 24-inch wheels, this bike can take a good beating and help you fully embrace the sports.

Review of Redline Bikes MX24 BMX Race Cruiser

Best For

The chrome alloy steel 3-piece tubular cranks, along with Tioga power block tires, Tektro 918 Linear brakes and RL Race Hi-Ten stem, make the bicycle extremely durable and suitable for vigorous use.

Despite the fact that this model falls into the category of entry-level BMX bikes most users agree that it's equally good for both first-time cyclists and more skilled bikers returning to the BMX racing after some idle period. This cruiser is designed to be fast and stand up to all adventures the road can throw its way. Loaded with race-ready features it will be perfect for anyone longing to get off the sidelines and go into action.

The bike will also be good for parents (and even grandparents). You will be able to enjoy a racing experience of your own as well as train your little one, helping them master BMX racing by trying out various trails and tracks.

Going Deeper into Details

As much as we appreciate how good the wheels look here, it's not the only feature that makes this BMX bike so attractive for customers. What we also find great is a cable detangler, enabling super-smooth 360-degree handlebar spins for performing various stuns and tricks.

Small But Strong

Mini BMX bikes are designed for ramp tricks that put considerable pressure on the frame and wheels, so such bikes must be pretty strong, and the FatBoy Mini BMX bike is just like that! The frame of this bike is made of hi-ten steel with well-welded seams. This combination makes the FatBoy Mini BMX bike durable enough to sustain heavy loads while doing tricks in a skate park. How to Bunny Hop

A "bunny hop" is one of the basic tricks on the BMX bike. This trick involves jumping both the front and rear wheels off the ground to overcome various obstacles. To bunny hop successfully, you should follow these simple rules.

  • To raise the front wheel, sink your weight into the front wheel, bend your knees, and then pull a handlebar upward with your arms. To achieve better results, always keep your elbows and knees slightly bent, push your feet into the pedals.
  • To perform the back hoop, shift your weight forward, then snap your heels up, bend your knees, and next pull the pedals up along with your feet.
  • To make the complete bunny hop (both front pull and back hop), combine these two techniques.

What Is a BMX Bike?

BMX or bike motocross is a cycle sport performed on special BMX bikes. It started in the 1970s when kids and teenagers began racing their bikes on dirt tracks. Today, this kind of sports has two main genres – BMX racing and freestyle BMX. BMX races are sprint races on off-road single-lap tracks that typically consist of a starting gate, a serpentine, dirt race course (with various jumps or rollers) and a finish line. Freestyle BMX has evolved from BMX races and now focuses on tricks and bike handling mainly. Both these genres require special bikes - BMX bikes. They typically feature 20-inch wheels, a rigid frame, fork, a single cassette gear, and high-rise handlebars. BMX bikes are much more durable than ordinary bikes. They are also small and light enough to let BMXers perform tricks, jumps, and stunts. For this review, we have rounded up ultimately good BMX bikes for different needs, ages, and riding styles.

We also recommend you to get a bike helmet to protect your head in case of falls and a bike cover to protect your bike when the weather is unfavorable.

What Features to Compare

Frame

The first thing you should pay attention to is the bike dimensions. Remember that the taller the rider is, the longer the frame should be.

You can check the following chart to ensure you buy the correct sized bike.

  • Height up to 3ft" - 12" wheel bike
  • Height from 3ft to 3ft 6" - 16" wheel bike
  • Height from 3ft 4" to 4ft 4" - 18" wheel bike
  • Height from 4ft" to 5ft 4" - 20" wheel bike with 18" to 20.25" top tube
  • Height from 5ft" to 6ft" - 20" wheel bike with 20.25" to 21" top tube
  • Height from 5ft 10" and upwards -20" wheel bike with 21" top tube or longer

As for the material, the frame can be made of Hi-Ten steel or different alloys. Bikes made from high tensile steel typically fall into the category of "entry-level models". They are heavier yet cheaper. The bikes with alloy or Chromoly frames are stronger, lighter in weight, and more durable. They are more agile and more suitable for performing various tricks. But the price of such bikes is a bit "heavier".

Groupset

There are several types of crank systems, and the most common are three-piece, two-piece, and one-piece cranks. A three-piece crank allows you to replace any mechanical part whenever you need it, but such systems are much heavier than one-piece or two-piece cranks. Still, it's the most desirable option due to its increased strength.

The length of the crank should also be chosen according to a cyclist's height. Brakes certainly make riding safer, but in extreme riding, too many cables can cause discomfort while doing tricks. Thus, a bike with a gyro brake system is a preferable option for any rider. Thanks to the gyro system, the cables won't tangle and you will be able to do tricks with the handlebar turning around.

Extras

The BMX bikes can be equipped with pegs for tackling ramps and street obstacles. The chain cover won't leave a chance for your bike to wind your pants. Plus, if the bike is fitted with reflectors, you will be more visible on the road.

Did you know?

When It All Began...

BMX is a relatively new kind of sports that originated in the early 1970s when kids began racing their bikes on dirt tracks in southern California, the USA. Children gave their preference to frills-free, standard bikes because they were easier to customize for handling and performance. By the mid-1970s, BMX racing was already a phenomenon, and bike manufacturers began to produce models designed specifically for the BMX sport.

In Great Britain, BMX became a craze in the early 1980s. A BMX bike was something like a “must have" thing for kids and teenagers at that time.

Initially, people were crazy about off-road bicycle racing. But in 1985, many people shifted the racing for freestyle.

What Is Freestyle?

Freestyle BMX is stunt riding on bikes. It has evolved as a new type of ride that involves tricks and bike handling. Within freestyle BMX there are five sub-disciplines:

  • Park. Park riding intends ramp riding and performing tricks in specific indoor BMX parks.
  • Street. As the name suggests, it refers to extreme street riding. Urban stairs and rails are typically used for performing tricks and turns.
  • Vert. It’s a freestyle sub-discipline that involves a half pipe for doing tricks. The biggest ramp in the worlds is 27 feet tall.
  • Trails (or dirt jumping). Trails are the artificial paths made from heavily compacted dirt. Riders usually get big air there.
  • Flatland. This discipline requires no external features. The terrain used here is nothing but a smooth, flat surface. All the tricks are performed with the bike by the rider. Usually, it’s described as ‘breakdancing’ on the bike.

Freestyle bikes are heavier than BMX bikes built for racing. Unlike racing bikes, BMX trick bikes often come with a ‘detangler’ or ‘Gyro’ braking system for the rear brake.

International Recognition

Soon after the rapid explosion of BMX racing, the International BMX Federation was founded. And already in 1982, the first world BMX championship was held.
Since 2008, BMX has been an official medal Olympic sport.

BMX World Records

The most BMX deathtruck spins in one minute. Unbelievably, but British BMXer managed to do as many as 46 deathtruck spins in a minute.

Most BMX Front Hops. Martin Tuson from Northern Ireland completed 46 front hops in just 10 seconds. Martin Tuson is also famous for other BMX world’s records including “Most BMX back hops”, “Most BMX pogo front hops”, etc.

Highest Stack Of Bowling Balls. Crazy Pinz jumped over a high stack of 3 bowling balls using his BMX bicycle.
