CONS

The double/triple tap takes some practice.

OUR VERDICT

The Samsung Galaxy Buds are the best true wireless buds below 100 bucks. These things feel good and sound good too. Plus, the music automatically stops when you remove the buds and resumes with a slight tap when you put them back in your ears.

The bass frequencies receive a noticeable bump and so do the mids. The vocal masking from low-end sounds is pretty minimal since the frequency ranges remain on the same loudness level. The company's DSEE HX (digital sound enhancement engine HX) renders clear audio, producing excellent instrumental separation.

CONS

The Bluetooth connection might occasionally disappear after finishing the call.

OUR VERDICT

The Sony WF-1000XM3 earbuds are easily up there with the best true wireless 'buds on the market today. The high-friction rubber surface makes these things extremely comfortable. The sound quality puts the product's mid-range peers to shame.

CONS

The volume button is too firm.

OUR VERDICT

The Jabra Elite 65t will have no issues tussling with the most expensive true wireless earbuds that the market has to offer. Packing motion sensors, fingertip controls, and IP56 dust- and sweat-resistance, these things effortlessly balance usability, features, and sound quality.

PROS

The small LED light on the front lets you check the 'buds, glowing green when these things are fully charged and orange when they're not. The 'buds have that powerful presentation that really livens up any track. The 2019 pods pair even quicker than the product's predecessor and those were quick to begin with.

CONS

The case is susceptible to scratches.

OUR VERDICT

We would recommend the Apple AirPods 2019 to those who've always wanted to purchase AirPods but haven't done so yet. We would definitely recommend them to those who don't mind the stem-like protruded aesthetic. We wouldn't necessarily recommend switching from the old pods to these though.

Incorporating Pioneering Audio technology, the model's graphene drivers inject sound with remarkable clarity and treble. Oscillating with exceptional precision, these drivers bring you the most accurate and realistic sound. The bud's in-ear fit creates that sound-tight seal that allows for deeper bass and improved noise isolation.

CONS

The earphones might not prove loud enough for some people.

OUR VERDICT

The Soundcore Liberty A3912 are equal-part comfortable and reliable in the long run (both literal and proverbial). The audio quality here is superb as far as mid-range earbuds are concerned. The charging case is compact enough to fit just about any pocket.

Samsung Galaxy Buds (SM-R170NZKAXAR)

Feel (and Sound) Good Inc.

Samsung Galaxy Buds are not cheap but these things' overall performance and comfort justify the price.

The adaptive dual microphone is probably the product's biggest strength. Mixing audio from inner and outer microphones, the earbuds are able to produce the clearest voice calls.

The Ambient Aware and Quick Ambient modes are fantastic too. Using the former, you'll be able to control how much surrounding noise penetrates the earbuds. The latter will allow you to quickly let outside noises become audible, making sure you're able to hear nearby friends/coworkers, catch flight announcements, traffic noises, etc.

Of course, earbuds are all about sound quality first and foremost. Incorporating AKG drivers, the model delivers rich, natural sound with excellent dynamic range and substantial bass.

On one hand, the controls are great. You can easily switch tracks, take calls, and/or turn up the volume with but one touch. On the other hand, the double/trip taps required for different tasks might take some time to get used to.

Bottom line, Samsung Galaxy Buds are the best-sounding true wireless buds below 100 bucks. These stylish things feel good and look good too. Plus, the music automatically stops when you remove the buds and resumes with a slight tap when you put them back in your ears.

What customers say about this product

Key Specs

The materials are very nice and they feel good in hand, and head. The case is a similar story. Light but substantial enough that it feels well made.

Features

The adaptive dual microphone feature is great at work, if I have someone talk to me while I'm listening to music, or if my desk phone rings I can still hear it.

Sony WF-1000XM3

Dramatic Sound Quality Increase

The Sony WF-1000XM3 are awesome. First things first, the 24-bit audio signal processing tech delivers dramatically enhanced sound quality that's a cut above anything within this price range.

In other words, these things sound great. The bass frequencies receive a noticeable bump and so do the mids. The vocal masking from low-end sounds is pretty minimal since the frequency ranges remain on the same loudness level.

The company's DSEE HX (digital sound enhancement engine HX) renders clear audio. The instrumental separation the aforementioned tech produces is excellent.

These earbuds create that honest space perception that pretty much matches high-end headphones and noticeably outclasses mid-range 'buds.

At the same time, the adaptive sound control feature is able to automatically switch to ambient sound mode based on the current activity.

Meanwhile, the company's dual-noise sensor tech, incorporating one feed-forward and one feed-back, works wonders catching more ambient sounds.

The only issue with these earbuds is that the Bluetooth connection might occasionally disappear after finishing the call.

Besides that, the Sony WF-1000XM3 are easily up there with the best true wireless 'buds on the market today. The high-friction rubber surface makes these things extremely comfortable. The sound quality puts the product's mid-range peers to shame.

What customers say about this product

Key Specs

Really good audio quality, fast connectivity, great battery life, classy look.

Features

Sound quality is flat and natural, and easily adjusted if desired with the Sony app. It was, subjectively, more detailed than the previous model.

Power

Toss them in the case for a quick charge and you are back on the go.

Size & Weight

The noise canceling is the best feature and it’s amazing how powerful these things are in their compact size.

Jabra Elite Active 65t

Reaching That Elite Level

The Jabra Elite 65t deliver on that "elite" premise more than one would expect.

First and foremost, the sound quality is elite. Balanced with that somewhat warm tilt that the company's earbuds usually gravitates towards, these things deliver premium sound. The bass has excellent impact and solid extension.

The highs are noticeably rolled off, meaning that the music never sounds especially harsh. At the same time, there's enough detail in the highs, though the 'buds naturally lack that sparkle and resolution that high-end earphones will usually bring you.

Overall performance-wise, these things are a blast to deal with. The 'buds automatically turn on when you remove them from the case, something that few true wireless earbuds do. At the same these, these things will automatically turn off when you place them back into the charging case.

The wireless part here is awesome. The 'buds immediately connect to the phone and seldom stutter.

On the design front, these things will unlikely win big-time design contests but the somewhat understated and mature profile makes these earbuds look good enough to earn a passing grade.

To sum up, the Jabra Elite 65t will have no issues tussling with the most expensive true wireless earbuds that the market has to offer. Packing motion sensors, fingertip controls, and IP56 dust- and sweat-resistance, these things effortlessly balance usability, features, and sound quality.

Apple AirPods (2019)

Great but too few Improvements

We feel conflicted about the Apple AirPods 2019. On one hand, these things are still great, building on the predecessor's legacy and showing noticeable improvements on some fronts. On the other hand, the differences between pods and the pods' previous iteration aren't enough to justify tossing the old ones for the new ones.

From the design standpoint, there's not much to discuss here. The long stems and pillbox-esque charging case look basically identical to what we've seen before except that the new case now incorporates this small LED light on the front that lets you check the 'buds, glowing green when these things are fully charged and orange when they're not.

The stem protrusions don't do the earbuds any favors appearance-wise but they're comfortable, we're not taking that away from them.

As far as wireless performance is concerned, we've no complaints. The 2019 pods pair even quicker than the product's predecessor and those were quick to begin with.

The sound's great. The 'buds have that AirPods' trademark powerful presentation that really livens up any track. That being said, the bass is pretty pedestrian compared to the earbuds' direct competition and the higher-frequency sounds will occasionally feel somewhat harsh.

Simply put, we would recommend the Apple AirPods 2019 to those who've always wanted to purchase AirPods but haven't done so yet. We would definitely recommend them to those who don't mind the stem-like protruded aesthetic. We wouldn't necessarily recommend switching from the old pods to these though.

What customers say about this product

Key Specs

The battery life is perfect too. I especially like how placing them back into the case charges them when not using them.

Size & Weight

It is so light weight that sometimes I had to push to feel them to see if they are still in my ears.

Features

They are so easy to connect! Once I connected them to my iPhone, they were seamlessly connected to my other apple devices.

Power

Case has enough juice to charge this 2-3 times. Quick Charging is good. I put in case for 15-20mins and I am good for next 3-4 hours.

Soundcore A3912

Superb Treble and Deeper Bass

The Soundcore Liberty A3912 does not mess around. These earbuds make sure you're able to experience your favorite music the way it is supposed to be experienced.

Incorporating Pioneering Audio technology, the model's graphene drivers practically fuel sound with remarkable clarity and treble. Oscillating with exceptional precision, these drivers bring you the most accurate and realistic sound. At the same time, the 'bud's in-ear fit creates that sound-tight seal that allows for deeper bass and improved noise isolation.

The excellent noise-isolation tech here is especially important because the product's biggest flaw is that the earbuds just aren't all that loud.

On the bright side, the grip-fit tech makes sure the ergonomically designed earbuds sit equally securely and comfortably in your ears. Slide these things in and twist them to lock. After that, you can run, push your limits at the gym, do whatever you want, the earbuds will remain secure and comfortable.

Other than that, the industry-standard Bluetooth 5.0 lets you enjoy the most stable, skip-free connection for uninterrupted streaming.

In short, the Soundcore Liberty A3912 are equal-part comfortable and reliable in the long run (both literal and proverbial). The audio quality here is superb as far as mid-range earbuds are concerned. The charging case is compact enough to fit just about any pocket.

What Are True Wireless Earbuds?

Now, you probably know wireless headphones and earbuds to be something that connects to your player or smartphone via Bluetooth and therefore has no wires to hang from your ears to your pocketed device. The earbuds still had a cord that connected the buds, though. That’s the extent of wireless we’ve known for some years already.

True wireless earbuds are basically just two separate earbuds, there is no cord connecting them to each other. You just push them up your ear canals like your usual buds and go. Nothing slaps you on the back of your neck, nothing tangles in your hair. It’s utterly convenient.

At the same time, besides enhanced convenience—no tangling wires, nothing getting in your way and hindering your movements—these more up-to-date earbuds offer better sound quality, and that’s something that was often a major issue with any wireless audio devices. It is yet to reach the level of a good CD player, of course, but it is already better than what everybody has gotten used to. Basically, true wireless earbuds are a new step in portable audio technology where the pros overpower any cons for most users. Try them for yourself!
