Saker 10 Inch Adjustable Lock

Even More Applications

The Saker Contour Duplication Gauge will work with winding pipes, circular frames, ducts, and more objects. With this gauge, you can fit tiles, laminate, gauge carpets, check dimensions, mold, and so forth, copying exact measurements and shapes. Made from high-strength plastic, this tool is durable and, despite its metal core, will not start displaying corrosion signs or forming rust patches eventually. Using the two hex screws that come with the package, you can adjust the model's tightness level. When you're done, the gauge will let you lock its teeth, enabling perfect traces with different applications.

For the most part, we have no issues with this tool. That being said, the model would have been even better if its edges were straight.

As always, the gauge comes equipped with a ruler. On this black ruler, you will find both SAE and metric measurements, accommodating different needs and preferences. Just like the main tool, this contour ruler is also made from high-strength plastic, so there's almost no chance you will be able to deform it.

All things considered, the Saker Contour Duplication Gauge is aimed at carpenters, woodworkers, and various tradesmen. Aside from that, the model will let you gauge smaller car bodies and enable small-time as well as big-time modeling.

VARSK 2 Pack 10 Inch

Duplicate any Shape

The VARSK 2-Pack Contour Duplicator Gauge is packing a 5-inch gauge and a 10-inch gauge. Between these two, you can measure door frames, mold wood, gauge tiles, fit pipes, you name the application. The gauges will let you fix cars (assuming the problem lies with the distance), make a new dashboard, fit carpets and floor panels, decorate fireplaces, scribe baseboards on steps, and tackle even more DIY projects.

They're great all-around gauges but the locks on them do not hold the slats very well, so be careful with the lock function. On the plus side, accuracy-wise, these tools do not go above 0.05 inches each, so you can make the smallest cuts without worrying that they will be a little inaccurate.

Both gauges are crafted from high-impact plastic, preventing them from deforming even under considerable pressure. What's more, they integrate a metal core, making the gauges even more robust.

Once the object's been contoured, you can lock the gauges' teeth, making sure that the trace is perfect. The supplied Allen wrench will let you make the grip more or less tight. Last but not quite least, the gauges come outfitted with double-sided rulers that feature SAE and metric measurements, so you can create instant templates for curved and odd-shaped profiles.

GOXAWEE 2 Pack 5 Inch& 10 Inch

Easy-Moving Needles

The GOXAWEE 2-Pack Contour Duplication Gauge offers a similar deal to the previous one. As you have probably guessed, this pack also features a 5-inch gauge as well as a 10-inch gauge. While they're not quite as precise as the gauges from VARSK, the 0.06-inch error margin is plenty, even as far as more minute applications are concerned. Furthermore, owing to the easy-moving needles, you can work with odd shapes, curves, irregular corners, and more.

Using these gauges, you'll be contouring laminate, carpets, wood boards, and tiles with more than sufficient accuracy, completing woodworking, construction, decoration, and renovation projects. Following the usual contour gauge recipe, both tools come equipped with a lock function. With this function, they allow you to lock the teeth, making the outline as perfect as possible.

The pack's value orientation, while subtle, is noticeable nonetheless. The accuracy dip is negligible but the same sentiment cannot be quite extended to the screws. Requiring frequent tightening, they make the gauges a little less convenient, which is not the worst thing in the world but, again, a bit inconvenient when you're working on large-scale projects. Still, the GOXAWEE 2-Pack Contour Duplication Gauge more than earns its keep.

wolfcraft 6949000 11 Inch

No Slipping

In case the pictures do not give it away, the Wolfcraft 6949000 (say that three times fast) is a little different from previous contour gauges. On the one hand, its clamping lever will let you fix the tips, making sure that the gauge does not slip. On the other hand, the tool comes without a measuring scale, so you'll have to bring a ruler with you when you need to make a precise cut.

For our taste, we like the model's teal-ish paintwork a little better than the usual bright orange finish that these gauges are normally working with. In theory, bright orange aids easy identification but, because more and more tools are painted with bright colors (we're looking at you as well, DeWalt, since orange and yellow are the same in this case), the gauge's teal shade is just as noticeable and a lot less obnoxious.

From an accuracy perspective, the tool measures 0.05 inches, accommodating even the more delicate projects where every 0.1 inch matters. Now, from a construction/craftsmanship angle, the gauge's made of high-quality plastic, preventing deform unless it is under extreme pressure. So, provided that accuracy is a priority for you, there's very little chance you will regret purchasing the Wolfcraft 6949000.

KEGOUU 10 Inch

Creating Instant Templates

The KEGOUU 10-Inch Contour Gauge Duplicator is a gauge that measures 10 inches (a shocking turn of events, we know). Using this gauge, you can copy the shape of different irregular items, replicating the molding shape or matching the cutouts. Not unlike its competition, this tool will allow you to work with windpipes, ducts, circular frames, tile flooring, linoleum, etc. Creating instant templates that will fit odd-shaped (including curved) profiles with this gauge will be no hassle at all.

Generally speaking, there's nothing especially unique about this model. The heavy-gauge plastic should not deform. The metal core will help the plastic frame, making deformation even less likely. The 0.06-inch accuracy is nothing to write home about. At the same time, it is also nothing to complain about, fitting even pretty subtle applications.

Similar to the contour gauges that we've reviewed above, this tool has a lock function. With this function, you can fix its teeth, making the trace perfect. But, dissimilar to these gauges, the model is a little stiff, so you'll have to apply a bit more force than usual. Of course, considering that the product also costs 2-3 times less than these gauges, we're more than willing to let this mishap slide.

What Is a Contour Gauge?

Carpenters, woodworkers, plumbers, pipefitters and steamfitters, welders, brazers, different maintenance workers, there are very few tradesmen that do not require occasional shape transferring. Of course, you can always copy the line with a pen and paper and transfer it like that. But a much more convenient way of doing it is using a contour gauge.

Also known as profile gauges, these tools let you record the surface's cross-sectional shape. Featuring two sets of teeth (sometimes made from plastic but usually from metal), profile gauges set them tight against each other, keeping the teeth in the same plane. This way, you can gauge and copy the object's shape without guesstimating. More often than not, the tools that we're discussing here are constructed from hard-wearing plastic that can withstand professional use. The best gauges might also add a metal core in-between the plastic frame, making sure that the tool does not break.

When you're dealing with hard-to-reach corners, these gauges work quite great with endoscope cameras. But, when you require absolute accuracy, a spirit level might be a better option than a contour gauge.
