Werner MT-22 Duty Rating

Safety Comes First

When you’re up high with one foot on the roof and the other on the ladder, you want to be sure in the product holding you up. So it makes sense to get the best telescoping ladder available, which is certainly how we’d describe the Werner MT-22.

These folding steps use special multi position J-locks, renowned for their reliability. Thus, when you fixate this model in a certain position, you can work calmly knowing that the model won’t fold on itself unexpectedly. Besides, the locks are shatter-proof so even if the ladder is exposed to damage you won’t end up with broken parts.

Admittedly, the Werner MT-22 does take up quite a bit of space when folded but it’s a reasonable sacrifice to make for the 22-foot reach of the ladder. Besides, this extendable model supports up to 300 lbs of weight, which means you can take a pretty hefty tool box along as you climb it. And don’t worry about slipping either as the steps have dual rivet layers and the feet of the ladder have anti-skid tips. You can safely place this model onto wet grass or mud and it won’t budge until you decide to fold up the ladder.

Last but not least, this is certainly a multi use model as it can be transformed into 1- and 2-person stepladder, a stairway, an extension ladder, and 2 scaffold models. With the Werner MT-22, you might pay more initially but you also get much more than you’d expect out of a regular household ladder. This is the best telescoping ladder in terms of usability and safety so we highly recommend it.

Xtend & Climb 785P Aluminum

Practical Fit for Housework

Sometimes all you need is a no-nonsense ladder that extends far and has soft close to prevent pinched fingers. If you’re looking to get high up, consider the Xtend & Climb 785P.

This extension ladder has a 15.5 ft length so you can comfortably climb up to your home’s roof or use it for RV and truck maintenance. And when we say comfortable, we mean it, as extension and folding are done via simple button presses. The buttons are placed at an angle so your fingers won’t get caught when the stair sections slide down.

Our one minor complaint would be the relatively low max load of 250 lbs but even that is enough for an adult with a tool box in their hand or some construction materials. It’s certainly not the most heavy duty ladder but it’s a safe and reliable one.

Although this model is made of aluminum, it’s definitely in the lower weight range at 36 lbs, to be expected if you want a sturdy ladder. Besides, transportation is made a bit easier thanks to an integrated carrying handle with a strap to hold the ladder closed as you move it.

While it’s not the top choice for construction work, the Xtend & Climb 785P unfolds easily and is made to be as convenient as possible in daily use. It’s a great find for domestic chores and quick housework.

OxGord LDAL-TS02-12-NEW

Take Your Tools on the Road

A true handyman tends to keep his tools on hand at all times but that’s not always easy when it comes to something large, such as a ladder. Luckily, there are options such as the OxGord LDAL-TS02-12-NEW, which not only folds to a mere 20” x 41” x 4” but even comes with an integrated carrying handle.

If you’re still not convinced, perhaps you’ll be swayed by the sturdy polyester storage bag that comes with the purchase. It holds the ladder easily and makes transportation much more convenient. Couple that with the very low weight of 24 lbs and you’re looking at a great product in terms of portability.

But that’s not all that’s good about the OxGord LDAL-TS02-12-NEW as its 12.5 ft length should be enough for most users as well. Moreover, the max load here is quite high at 330 lbs, very important for those who often use the ladder while holding construction materials or heavy tools. Admittedly, the folding mechanism here isn’t the most convenient and you could accidentally pinch your fingers as the ladder slides down. But that’s easy to solve with a pair of gloves so it’s not exactly worth fretting over.

All in all, we’d definitely call the OxGord LDAL-TS02-12-NEW a solid choice both in terms of heavy duty usage and portability. It’s sure to find some use among handymen and construction workers.

Luisladders Oshion Aluminum

Transforms for Multiple Uses

There’s one main factor that you should never compromise on when it comes to ladders as it’s what your safety hinges on. We’re talking about how steadily the product stands and how likely it is to skid on the surface it’s supposed to be standing on. With that in mind, we highly recommend the Luisladders Oshion.

This model has an extra-wide stabilizer bar and angled feet so it doesn’t shake as you climb. Besides, the feet are anti-skid and won’t slide whether you place them on tile, grass, or straight on the ground.

That’s not all that makes this a particularly good option as the Luisladders Oshion transforms from a regular extension ladder to a stairway, a stepladder, and a scaffold base. It’s going to come in handy at many points in home work, especially since it can hold up to 330 lbs and stretches for a whopping 16.5 ft.

Our only complaint here is the rather difficult retracting process, which takes some force. You’ll have to strain to fold the ladder up, though it’s not such a big problem.

But no minor issue like that can sour the fact that the Luisladders Oshion is a multi use ladder that’s going to be a safe choice for any work you do at home. It transforms easily to suit different purposes and costs no more than a regular ladder would. A real bargain for a real handyman.

WolfWise 12.5 Ft

Step with Confidence

When climbing a ladder, you want to be sure that your foot will stay planted firmly on the steps so you can get all the way up without slipping off. If that’s what’s key for you, take a look at the WolfWise 12.5.

Each of the steps here is wider than usual so that you can put your full weight on it without worrying about slipping or the step giving way. Plus, the steps all have a special coating to both remove any chance of stumbling and make them more comfy to climb even if you have no shoes on.

We do wish that each part of the ladder was as well-made as the steps. In particular, the plastic inserts here get scratched up really fast and lose their look just a few weeks after purchase. Admittedly, that’s not exactly key for ladder use anyway.

What is great about this model is the high max load of 330 lbs, which means you can climb it with plenty of materials or tools in your hands. The aluminum frame won’t give way as you work so the process will be quite safe.

At the end of the day, the WolfWise 12.5 might not offer multi use capabilities or a stainless steel body but it’s a lightweight model that’s fit for heavy duty use. The steps here are extra safe and comfortable, which is what matters most when you spend hours standing on a ladder to clean out the gutters in your home or working on the roof.

What Is a Telescoping Ladder?

Any handyman knows that good tools are half the work and if you plan to do anything with your roof or in a room with a high ceiling, you’re going to need something to climb. This means using either a step ladder or a regular foldable one. These products offer a sturdy place to stand, usually made of metal such as aluminum and stainless steel. Depending on the model, your ladder can be retractable with multifunction sections so you can regulate how high it gets. From the tallest to the lowest, the telescoping ladders guarantee that you’ll be able to reach your goal.

Aside from multi-sectionality, you should be on the look for ladders that are both the longest and the lightest as you want to keep your reach unlimited but the product portable. This often means having a hollow frame with metal supports so the ladder is relatively lightweight overall. But if you plan to put a lot of weight on it, consider opting for a heavy-duty model that can support several hundred lbs with ease. It’s the safest choice for construction work though probably not the most compact one.

While you’re looking for things to help you with work on your roof or home in general, don’t forget to pick up a tool belt or a hammer drill.
