Rage Powersports BW-SK-E

Quite a Shop Kit

Rage Powersports advertise the imposingly named Black Widow as an essential motorcycle service and maintenance kit and we're inclined to agree with them. Sure, it isn't cheap, and may be a bit of an overkill for some of the more casual motorcyclists, but this is as good of a bike lift as it gets.

First, there's the heart of the lift, as in the table-type platform. It features a whopping 1,000 lbs lifting capacity, a 24" loading ramp, and a 7-32" lifting range. A lifting range like that will allow you to raise the motorbike to a comfortable and appropriate working level. It'll also ensure wheel access, along with a rear drop-out panel.

In addition to the motorcycle lift, you'll get a hand-operated tire bead breaker. With it, you will be able to quickly and easily change tires or perform a custom rim replacement. You will also get a motorbike wheel balancer that works with tires that are up to 10" wide and 28" in diameter.

Fixing any vehicle like that often takes a whole lot of time. So you'll particularly appreciate the back-saving foam padded shop seat, especially since it won't just prevent the back pains but also improve your productivity with a built-in tool tray.

Other tools and instruments include a cam buckle tie-down straps, 1-inch ratchet tie-down straps, 4 protective soft loops, and an LED work light. So, all things considered, we would say that Black Widow might very well be the best motorcycle lift on the market right now. While the lift itself is no slouch, it is all of the additional accessories that make this product such a great choice for professional mechanics or motorcycle mavens.

Titan Ramps Motolift

A Titan of a Ramp

If you're looking for a heavy-duty motorbike lift, we would recommend giving this model from Titan Ramps a shot. First, the lifting capacity of a 1,000 lbs will make this construction a perfect addition to your motorcycle repair shop. But the lifting capacity isn't even remotely the only impressive thing about it.

For instance, there's the heavy duty 11ga steel plate construction that allows the lift to withstand some serious workshop abuse. Of course, working with heavy bikes, you can never invest too much in safety. Which is why the manufacturers included a front wheel vise chock, a stop plate, and a set of tie-down straps.

All of these parts will keep the vehicle in place as you raise it. And a removable safety bar will allow you to lock it into place whenever you're ready to get to work. On top of that, there's also the diamond-plate surface that significantly reduces the already low risk of slipping, providing an extra layer of safety and security.

What we have here is your standard two foot-pedal hydraulic motorcycle lift table, meaning that all you have to do to raise the table is pump the lift pedal. The other pedal, known as the release pedal, will allow you to gently lower the table back.

All in all, there's really no need to describe this product as everything important is already in the name. The extra-long, heavy-duty, sturdy table will provide you with a reliable and very convenient way to raise or lower the motorcycles in order to maintain, repair, or detail them.

Extreme Max 5001.5083

A Smaller Platform

We definitely liked the lift from Extreme Max, enough to put it quite high in our list. That said, "Extreme Max" is a bit of a misleading name here since these aren't the words we would use to describe a motorbike lift with a 300-pound lifting capacity. That makes the model more than suitable for maintaining, repairing, or tinkering with a dirt bike or a small motorcycle. But not necessarily suitable for Harleys and some of the more robust bikes.

But if that's not a problem for you, there isn't a whole lot about this motorcycle lift that you wouldn't like. For starters, it is really easy to use. Just set your two-wheeled bud on the table, use the foot pegs and the fasteners to secure it, and lift it using the foot pedal. You won't need any extra tools or instruments to get this job done.

What we particularly liked about this model is its lifting range that caps at 34.5 inches. A maximum height like that will provide you with a nice opportunity to work on your bike without stooping or kneeling.

It also comes with a locking bar that you can use the secure the height, so you won't have to worry about accidentally pressing the release pedal and lowering the table. Finally, the padded rubber platform will prevent your ATV or motorbike from scratching or scraping the surface.

Again, this motorcycle lift is a perfect fit for smaller motorbikes, ATVs, and bicycles. The swiveling castors make this product particularly maneuverable. Plus, these wheels come with locks, so they won't slide or roll around whenever they feel like it.

What Is a Motorcycle Lift?

It is all in the name, isn't it? Just like a car lift or any other similar construction, a motorcycle lift is an instrument that will allow you to raise your favorite two-wheeled vehicle above the ground and provide you with a supporting structure that will keep it there. The main difference between a lift and a jack is that the former incorporates a table-esque platform, while the jack comes with a saddle instead.

Generally speaking, those wheeled jack types offer a lot more lifting capacity but they can't hold a candle to wheeled lift types as far as the questions of comfort and convenience are concerned. But what both of them have in common is that you should always go for the model that will be able to support the weight of your motorcycle(s). Other than that, you should also take into consideration the size of the platform and how it corresponds with the size of your vehicle. And, as it is with car lifts, the lifting range, also known as the jack lift, is also something that you ought to keep in mind as it will determine the number of potential maintenance and repair options that you'll have at your disposal.

And if bikes are your thing, we would definitely recommend checking out our reviews of motorcycle helmets and gloves.

Benefits and Advantages of a Motorcycle Lift

The majority of people in general and the ones that have at least a passing interest in his sort of machinery in particular are aware of car lifts. Hell, the name itself is a solid giveaway. And, to no one's surprise, motorcycle lifts do not differ that much from car lifts. That said, we believe it is still important to cover certain aspects of these lifts. If you do not have a ton of experience with motorcycle lifts, it could help you figure out the differences and learn the necessary safety procedures that will keep you and your bike from harm.

Application

As we have already briefly covered in our "What Is It" section, a motorcycle lift is essentially a large table that lifts the bike and keeps it above the ground level. This way, the owner of the motorbike or the mechanic has the opportunity to inspect the vehicle in a much more detailed manner. Being able to do a more thorough job of inspecting and fixing your bike's issues is a pretty good advantage in and of itself. But a lift like that will also remove the usual strains on your body from the equation, the kind of strains that are inevitable when you engage in maintenance and repair jobs on the ground.

It isn't just professional motorcycle mechanics that will tell you how useful and practical a lift like that can be. Anyone individual who has had years of experience taking care of his own bike knows firsthand how important and convenience these things are.

Size

Cars are great and car lifts are as helpful of an instrument as they come. But they aren't always quite as practical since they require quite a lot of space. That is one of the main differences between car lifts and motorcycle lifts. Since your average motorcycle is a lot smaller than an average car, as one might expect, an average motorcycle lift is also a lot smaller than its car counterpart. These lifts are accessible to the mass home market and they allow just about anybody to turn their garage into a proper workshop.

With a lift like that, previously inaccessible tasks such as oil changes can be effortlessly performed in a small garage or a large shed. You won't have to waste your time and money everytime you have some sort of a minor issue that you could easily fix on your own, given the chance. And you won't have to lie on the cold hard ground, straining your back, your neck, and inconveniencing yourself in the process in just about every way possible.

Safety

With any maintenance and repair tools, safety should always remain number one priority. Respect the weight of your motorbike and maintain extra caution when you go under it. When you raise the bike, make sure that the engine is turned off. And do not forget to double check the security locks on your motorcycle lift. If you don't do that, there's a chance that the bike might de-stabilize itself and we don't have to tell you that nothing good could come out of it.

To be fair, with modern-day lifts, it really isn't that much of an issue. Just make sure that your two-wheeled vehicle is fitted into the appropriate place and you shouldn't encounter any issues.
