Sleek Look

The Hamilton Beach 76606Z is probably the sleekest can opener in its price range. The model's silver accents mesh really well with the black inserts, creating a streamlined appearance that is as modern as these tools come. Add to that the chrome detailing and the opener will be able to fit just about any kitchen décor.

Setting aesthetics aside, you shouldn't have any issues fitting the model from a more practical standpoint. Measuring 4.7 x 5 x 10.2 inches in overall dimensions, it is particularly compact. It barely requires any tabletop space. Plus, its 3-pound weight makes the opener easy to move around as well as transport.

The other little detail that lets you transport this tool with ease is its built-in cord storage. You tuck that cord behind the opener and the model barely presents any space requirements.

As far as we're concerned, it isn't the opener's biggest selling point but the people behind the product really double-down on that "frustration-free packaging", so we'll briefly cover that too. It is straightforward enough, we'll give these people that much. Opening the product inside packaging like that is seamless enough.

At the same time, with its recyclable composition, the packaging is friendly to the environment and, again, is simply a no-brainer to open.

Plus, packaging like that comes cheaper since it is cheaper to manufacture a simple cardboard box/envelope (ordered in volume) compared to the usual annoying plastic packaging or needlessly involved boxes that do not serve any useful functions.

Smooth Touch

The opener's functionality is more or less streamlined too. It is able to open pop-top and regular cans with matching ease. The model's side-cutting action lifts the cans' top off and leaves nothing but a smooth edge. Without the usual sharp lid edges cuts, the lid becomes touchable and far more pleasant to deal with.

The controls are simple enough too. The large ergonomic lever incorporates rubber padding, so you'll have no issues pressing it with wet/dirty hands. The magnetic holder is especially secure, meaning you won't have to support the can with your hand. For our taste, the only thing this model lacks in the functionality department is an automatic shut-off feature.

All things considered, the Hamilton Beach 76606Z is an excellent can opener, especially from the price-performance ratio perspective. The model looks too good for an affordable tool like that. It is functional, convenient, and especially compact.

Doing a Little bit of Everything

The BLACK + DECKER EC500W is huge, referring primarily to the unit's feature list since its size, while not that modest, is also far from huge, being a reasonable 5.59 x 4.92 x 9.53 inches. No, what's huge here is what this device can do. Aside from opening standard cans, the device can open pop-top cans, remove bottle caps, and sharpen knives. Being this versatile, we can forgive the unit an extra inch here and there. Plus, it is not like the device looks bulky or awkward. Quite the opposite, from where we're standing, this is one handsome model, with the gray/silver housing seamlessly blending into the most upscale kitchen settings.

Now, before that, to be a little more precise, this device does not remove pop-tops and bottle caps, it is the removable multi-tool that does that. But, since you can store that tool in the unit's back, you can basically suggest that the unit performs that function.

What the unit does first and foremost though is, employing the EasyCut™ blade tech, slice through lids while the can spins in place on the stable base. Thanks to this technology, the model opens cans within seconds and the blade remains sharp without requiring frequent resharpening. The aforementioned stable base, designed extra-wide, stabilizes the device, making sure that the cutting/sharpening action does not cause the unit to skid around the countertops, remaining stable on that surface. To some extent, the curved body also contributes towards that goal, even though less than the base.

Accommodating Lefties Too

With the opening and popping action out of the way, all that's left is the knife-sharpening part. Moved to the back, the sharpening mechanism does not get in the way of the can-opening mechanism, making the unit quite practical placement-wise. Also, the sharpening angle accommodates right-handed users and lefties alike.

Besides hiding the above-mentioned multi-tool, this device can also hide the cord, with its neat cord storage slot on the bottom. Mirroring most electric can openers, the model comes with a magnetic holder, so you don't have to hold the cans yourself. Even more, with the one-touch lever, all you have to do is slide the can, push the lever down, and retrieve the can once the lid is removed, pushing the lever aside.

Bottom line, the BLACK + DECKER EC500W is the most versatile entry on this list and, within its price point, maybe the most versatile electric can-opening machine out there.

Simple but Good

Straight off the reel, the Cuisinart CCO-50BKN is a simple contraption. This means it doesn’t have extra features, such as a knife sharpener or a bottle opener, but it does its job as intended and is easy to use for everyone.

Though simple, the can opener isn’t flimsy. Made with durable BPA-free plastic materials, it is quite robust and can handle a number of cans without overheating. Using it couldn't be easier too. Just press the lever down and the CCO-50BKN will get the job done. The process is fully automatic, and holding the lever isn’t needed.

Another strong point in favor of the CCO-50BKN is that it is safe to use. Equipped with a precision Power Cut blade, the unit keeps the edges of the opened cans neat and smooth, minimizing the risk of cutting fingers.

Like we said, the CCO-50BKN doesn’t have many additional features, but it does have a magnetic lid holder - an essential feature in any electric can opener designed to provide hands-free operation. This holder along with the Power Cut blade is attached to the lever, which can be easily removed for hassle-free cleanup.

About Design

Before wrapping up, let’s say a few words about the CCO-50BKN’s design. The model has simple but elegant styling, with streamlined housing, chrome accents, and elegant contours. So, it will look good in any kitchen. Besides that, it is available in white, silver, stainless steel, and black color options, so you can pick the one that suits your interior best.

All in all, if you're looking for an affordable, easy-to-use, and robust can opener to open tall and short cans alike, the CCO-50BKN from Cuisinart will fit that bill just fine.

What customers say about this product

Power(4)

It's fast and easy and doesn't hurt your hands.

Key Specs(4)

One thing, be careful because the lid is very sharp after being cut off. It's help in place by a magnet. Highly recommended if you need a basic can opener.

Size & Weight(3.8)

It was as described and works well. It is light weight but thats ok, makes it easy to move around.

Features(4)

The magnet is strong and holds not only the lid but also the side of the can.

Minimalistic Approach

Most electronic can openers are quite bulky and not as convenient as one would expect. However, the Proctor Silex 75217F is not most can openers. No, this device runs circles around them. To get the ball rolling, this minimalistic unit measures just 8.44 x 5.5 x 4.5 inches, much less than its competition that fit in the same price window. Reducing its size, the manufacturers have also reduced the opener's weight, making the entire unit weigh less than 2 pounds, enabling easy one-hand carrying and comfortable relocation without noticeable effort.

As you can probably tell, the minimalistic design also extends towards its appearance, keeping pretty much the entire device gleaming white, aside from the chrome blades. Thanks to this chrome treatment, the blades will not start corroding or forming rust patches with time, even with the unit stored somewhere humid. Even the company's logo has been downsized, a decision that we wholly support.

We would not quite support its slow operation though. While we have seen and reviewed even less speedy openers, we would still like to see this part improved next time.

We're fine with the twist-off cutting lever as it is though, making cleaning basically hassle-free owing to the twist-off mechanism. We're more than fine with the non-skid feet, keeping the unit nice and steady and protecting the countertops from scratches. Between these feet, you will find a nice little cord storage compartment, enabling neat and tidy storage when the device is not being used.

Sharpening Knives Too

While we have covered practically everything important, the first and most important part is that, besides opening cans, this device can also sharpen knives. In fact, it is pretty good at sharpening knives, even more so than most dedicated knife sharpeners (budget ones, naturally).

What the device is also pretty good at is automatically shutting off once it is done opening the can or sharpening the knife, so you don't have to oversee the entire process and can just feed the unit its victim and go about your day knowing that you're not causing any accidents. The last item on the proverbial list is the magnetic holder, holding most cans and certain knives tight so that, again, all you have to do is feed the can/knife and the device will do its job without your help.

Long story short, the Proctor Silex 75217F is a compact can-opening device that will accommodate even those people who want to conserve as much kitchen space as possible.

What customers say about this product

Key Specs(4.7)

Great for older people. Easier than a hand opener.

Features(4.8)

All my knives were sharpened nicely after swiping the blades 3-5 times and continued to stay sharp.

Any Can Will Do

Considering how affordable it is, the Hamilton Beach 76380Z is an excellent product. The model is practical, versatile, effective, and it incorporates just about every feature/function in the can opener book, which is impressive taking its budget-friendly price tag into account.

We don't necessarily care for the so-called classic chrome heavyweight build but we can't say that the model doesn't look solid and/or sleek enough to work with just about any modern kitchen setting. For some reason, the people behind the product really bank on the model's extra-tall design in the company's advertising strategy. We fail to see the advantages that the opener's height presents.

Sure, measuring 10.24" (height) x 5.12" (width) x 6.9" (depth), the model isn't necessarily massive. You should be able to find enough space for it in your kitchen. Plus, it will be able to work with just about any can. At the same time, you reduce that height a little and the opener would've been able to do that too.

Then again, the model probably would've not been able to open #10 size cans and, as rare as these cans are, it is always a plus when you have the means necessary to do that. As it is usually the case with the company's can openers, the Hamilton Beach 76380Z features built-in cord storage. The retractable cord simplifies storage and transportation. At the same time, it is long enough to not keep you too tied to the nearby AC outlet.

SureCut Tech

As you can probably tell from these pictures, the product is as much a preserves opener as it is a knife sharpener. That 2-in-1 functionality is always something we like to see in our kitchen tools/gadgets. That being said, the knife sharpener isn't always as effective as it could be. It probably has something to do with the somewhat awkward angle you have to position the blade to make the sharpener work. It is nice that it is there in the first place though.

Its can-opening prowess is nothing to complain about. The company's proprietary SureCut™ patented technology works wonders opening cans on the first time, every time. The cutting unit isn't just effective but removable and easily washable too. There's an automatic shut-off feature, which is, again, impressive considering the modest price. Last but not least, the magnetic holder is strong, reliable, and secure.

Bottom line, Hamilton Beach 76380Z is probably the best electric can opener in its price range. The model isn't necessarily too compact but it is surprisingly lightweight. You'll have no issues opening even deformed cans.

What Is an Electric Can Opener?

Though dubbed a can opener, a device like that often doubles as a knife sharpener and a bottle opener and allows opening cans, both small and tall, virtually in an instant.

Why electric tin openers caught the fancy of most customers forcing manual versions out of the kitchen drawers in most households? There are a few reasons. One of them is the fact that electric can openers are very easy to operate: all you need is to set a can into a special attachment, push the button and then, the device will open the can in a matter of a few seconds.

Another one is functionality. As we've mentioned, aside from simply opening cans, these devices often have a knife sharpening feature, meaning they can also sharpen your knives, open bottles, and cut paper bags. And finally, electric can openers are safe to use. Unlike manual openers, these always leave the edges smooth, minimizing the risk of injuries. As a bonus, the majority of electric can openers have a sleek exterior and will prove a nice addition to your kitchen.

In this review, we offer you the best tin openers you can buy right now. We hope you'll like our top picks!

Wine aerators will be a great purchase for any connoisseur. They enrich the wine with oxygen and bring out its true taste for you to serve the drink. When you are cooking complex dishes or baking something kitchen scales will help you keep up the accuracy of a recipe and ensure excellent results.

What Features to Compare

Functionality

When looking for an electric tin-opener, one thing you want to check out first is its functionality. There are two types of electric can openers offered. One is specialized only in opening of preserve tins. Other models can be multifunctional. Thanks to such devices you can easily sharpen knives, open beer bottles and, of course, cans. You can also find can openers designed with special slots for holding scissors.

Material and Design

Next, consider the material and design of the model. Electric can openers can be made from metal and plastic. Of course, those made of metal are more durable and aren't as prone to deforming as those made with plastic housings so if the long service life of the device is important to you, opt for the former option. Also, electric tin openers can be stationary and portable. In case you often travel or go on picnics and find yourself in need of a device like this it only makes sense to choose a portable model with compact dimensions. If not, then you can safely choose from other types. In our review, we cover some of the most popular types, including cabinet-type and under-cabinet can openers.

Extras

Finally, check out what other additional functions and options are included in the opener. For greater convenience of use, manufacturers often fit their devices with such functions as automatic shut-off which removes the need to turn the device off by hand, a magnetic can holder that makes it easier to retrieve things after opening bottles or cans, or even a built-in storage compartment for letting you keep your countertop de-cluttered.
