What customers say about "Key Specs"
Philips Hue BR30 White and Color Ambiance
  • These do not flicker or loose their brightness when your AC comes on or other common power fluctuations.
  • We've had them installed for about a month now and have had no connection issues
  • It does what it does well, and after a few initial connectivity problems (and randomly out of sync color issues), it seems to be stable.
  • For the switches connected to fixtures with Hue bulbs in them, I've got the wiring setup to bypass the switch so the bulb always has power and then the smart switch just tells the bulb to turn on/off.
  • A little problem at first trying to get the hub connected to the internet but used google for help.
Philips Hue A19 Starter Kit
  • The hub is very easy to set up. First, it's important to know that you need to plug this into a router. It cannot be used wirelessly. The hub comes with a short ethernet plug to enable the connection. Simply plug it into an available ethernet connection on your router.
  • First you connect the bridge to your wireless router--this requires an email address and confirmation, so it's a bit of a pain at the start, but after that (and it comes with step-by-step instructions), it's all pretty much smooth sailing.
  • Using these in desk lamps that required low watt bulbs due to plastic housing. They are great. Bulbs don't get hot at all but put out a large amount of light.
  • Hard wired connections may be "ugly" but they ensure quality transfer rates!
  • These bulbs are only capable of illuminating up to 60 Watts. Of course, Philips offers different sized lighting, including color changing bulbs. I *believe* the larger bulbs provide higher wattage.

What customers say about "Lighting"
Philips Hue BR30 White and Color Ambiance
  • The hue lights are perfect for home automation and color decorations.
  • These lights work great. It is so cool to be able to change the colors.
  • These lights and this system is fantastic. Started off with 7 can lights for kitchen and 2 bulbs for living room.
  • The lights don't dim as low as other lights I've had.
  • The only downside is the lumens on the bulb is not high enough so it will not illuminate a decent sized room well.
Philips Hue A19 Starter Kit
  • Your existing lighting switches will work just as normal -- when you swap out a bulb with a Phillips Hue, your light switches will work just as normal.
  • Highly recommend this product for anyone wanting to take their home lighting into the 21st century.
  • You can make brighter, dim to a certain percentage, turn on single lights or full groups, etc. It is so great to take advantage of technology previously only available to the very wealthy. Awesome!!
  • Not a huge deal, but it'd be great if the bulbs could dim a bit more. The dimmest level is still a little bright for my tastes. Probably not a big deal in larger apartments and homes.
  • Quality of light from the new bulbs is not much different from the old ones. The lighting pattern does not seem much different even with the more round shape.

What customers say about "Features"
Philips Hue BR30 White and Color Ambiance
  • My house is pretty highly controlled with a SmartThings setup and every light switch in the house is smart.
  • Also, it's good to note that these work with the program F.lux and can dim your lights according to time of day.
  • This light automation system is much much better then smarthomes INSTEON/X11 as no wiring or electric skills are needed.
  • I have HUE lights everywhere. This was the first one with color features. Definitely worth the price.
  • You see these lights don’t work well with regular switches and really prefer if you wire your room so that the switches are disconnected.
Philips Hue A19 Starter Kit
  • You can use Siri to configure your lighting. "Siri, I'm home." "Siri, dim the bedroom lights." "Siri, let's watch a movie."
  • Scenes can be scheduled so that they turn on/off at certain times, or even when you arrive or leave.
  • You can control this system by turning the light on or off even while you're away from your home.
  • Like the first gen hub you can control your lights from anywhere through the Philips Hue app. This generation has all the features of the older one and just adds to them.
  • The app is very simple and straightforward. I have explored setting up routines, so I'll probably update this review if they don't seem to work.
