VIER: Upgrade Your Bike Security

Last update January 26, 2018

The Kickstarter platform has given the means for success to a lot of creative projects with interesting ideas and conceptual designs. The VIER Bike Lock is one of them.

A Story With Happy Ending

The Kickstarter campaign for the VIER Bike Lock has been launched by a married couple from California in August 2014. The project has collected the necessary funds in just one month, and, by the January 2015, the first customers have received their product. The lock has aggregated many positive reviews and all of 3 size variants have the highest possible Gold security rating from Solid Secure - an independent testing company of secure products. So, let’s take a closer look at it.

The Lock You Will Want to Use

With the idea of a secure, easy-to-install bike lock, the couple has created a double-shackle, high-security, D-style lock that fastens around a bicycle frame and a wheel’s rim. It consists of 4 parts, made of 61 HRC hardened steel. 2 of them are drill-resistant cylinders with an anti-pick lock in one of them. The other 2 parts are the 12mm shackles that come in different lengths - 5.25", 7.25", and 9.25". That way, you can be sure to find a suitable one for your bicycle or bike. Also, the exposed steel elements are covered with black vinyl that protects the bike frame and wheel’s rim from being damaged or scratched by the lock.

Lock-n-Load

Assembling the VIER is incredibly simple. Just insert the shackles in the cylinder’s slots and rotate at 180° to fix them. Then, insert the other two ends in the other cylinder with a keyhole in it, and they will be blocked automatically. Once assembled, there are no weak parts that can be easily pried open, sawed off or cut in half with the standard bolt cutters. The lock has also been tested at 1.5 tons of pull strength by manufacturers.

The VIER lock comes with 2 blade-style keys, so you can keep a spare one at home. The keyhole has a slidable cover to prevent the water and street dirt from getting inside the lock. As for the transportation, the disassembled cylinders and shackles can be stored and carried around in the supplied zippered pouch. The same pouch also has a ring keyholder and a velcro strap for attaching it to the frame or below the seat instead of putting it in the bag.

Safe Bet

As the campaign's pledge goals have been met, the VIER bike locks are already available for purchase. Therefore, you are free from the risks, coming from pledging the ongoing projects. So, if you want the lock to secure your bicycle or motorbike, you can buy it now from Amazon or directly from the Tallac House company website to support their business.
