The Time Traveler's Guide to the Past

Last update July 12, 2018

The Russia-based team develops the Timebound App that will allow you to time travel and relive the notable events of human history.

Real-Time History

The Timebound App is a Kickstarter-funded project with a unique and refreshing concept for learning the history in an entertaining and captivating way. Instead of just showing you the monotonous summary of the historical events, the app allows you to live them through. After choosing the story, the app will start sending you the push notifications with brief headlines of the event details in a sync with the exact time of the day when they have occurred.

Every fact and detail are stated to be taken from the reliable sources and would be provided in the forms of plain text, pictures, footage, maps, plans, and other media. The authors promise to provide only the pure facts without taking a side in the stories with conflicts. The information, though, will be detailed but brief and easy-to-understand so that you wouldn’t be bogged down in trivia.

Surfing Through the Events

Imagine reliving the anticipation of the first man's step on the surface of the Moon or the tragedy of the Titanic. Revisit the Woodstock ’69 or observe the Battle of Waterloo. Some of the events may take less than a day from the beginning till the end to follow. Others may last for months or even years. For example, the World World II has lasted for 6 long years - so will do the app’s event. One way or another, the Timebound will contain the major events that took place in any part of our planet and have left a mark on the world we all are living in.

Right from the start, the app will feature several stories to choose from and follow. Furthermore, the team plans to add at least one story per week. Such approach to learning history may interest not only historians or students but also anyone else, who just wants to learn more about the history of mankind.

Is the Time Travel Free?

The Timebound app will be available for free for Android and iOS devices. The basic version will include several free events to download and follow right from the beginning, while more of them will be available in a form of monthly or annual subscription. The team also plans to make some of the events attainable as a single-time purchase. The app features an option to turn the push notifications off in accordance with your own schedule or show only the key details. Furthermore, there’s no need to wait for the exact date to start the event - only for the corresponding time of the day. As the ongoing event cannot be paused, you will be able to read the missed notifications later. Additionally, the app conveniently syncs up with your phone’s clock, showing the info as if the event took place in your time zone.

What’s in the Future

Speaking of the risks of the investment, the Timebound is already in the state of active development. The full app is scheduled to be released in May 2017. What’s more, the backers from Kickstarter, who pledged $49 or more, can already participate in the beta-testing of the iOS version. As the pledge goal hasn’t been met, you can still back this project on their official Kickstarter page. Although the authors already have set plans for their app, you are free to propose the specific timeline for the future updates.

At the moment, the Timebound team consists of the Russian editors, art directors, a designer, web and mobile developers. All of them have been previously involved in such media projects as Esquire Russia, Forbes Russia, Afisha magazines. Also, the Timebound CEO, Dmitry Golubovsky, have a Ph.D. in history and many years of the media work experience.

Currently, the app is intended to only feature the past events from the antiquity to modern days. However, it may be possible, that with some success, the boundaries of this concept can be extended to include the fictional timelines from the future, past or even alternative universes. Such as the Battles of Middle-earth, the Rebellion fleet attack on the Death Star or the modern history of Westeros.
