Foldylock Compact for the Securest Bike Lockdown

Last update January 26, 2018

The Foldylock Compact is a third successfully funded Kickstarter project from Seatylock, that makes most of the other bike locks look dated.

The Winning Concept

The Seatylock company has triumphantly met their funding campaign goal. However, despite being completed, you can still go on their site and order your copy of the theft-proof lock with such an amazing concept. So, what makes it so special?

For starters, the Foldylock Compact is a successor of the previous, larger Foldylock Classic bike lock that consists of 6 links joined together. They can be folded just like a zigzag rule to be put in a bag when you don’t need it. As the strength of the chain is in its weakest link, each and every part of the lock should withstand heavy use and the most ruthless abuse.

In the Foldylock Compact, all of the link bars, rivets, and conjunctions are made of the hardened stainless steel, molded in military-grade, UV-treated plastic polymer. In other words, it’s made to last and can be freely used in any weather conditions. Also, the plastic coating protects your bike frame from scratches.

Linking the Chain

When unfolded, the Foldylock forms a 31.5"-long strip with the lockable parts on each end, that can be securely fastened together and locked with a key in a swift manner.

Although the link conjunctions look like the weakest points of the whole lock, they are incredibly sturdy here. The drilling-proof rivets are made to resist the hacksaw cuts. The videos on the Internet even show, that hammering the conjunctions with chisel has no other effect than just a scratched plastic coating. Therefore, bike thieves will have more luck sawing the pole that you strap your bike to, rather than breaking or tearing the links apart.

Bite Me

In addition to the reliable design, the Foldylock Compact is only 7.5" long in a folded position and comes with a handy case to put it in so that the links wouldn’t unfold by themselves. Also, if you don’t have a bag on you to put the lock in, you can attach the holder to the frame via bottle holder screws or with 2 special straps that come in the set.

The key design also features an internal cut instead of groovy edges, which also add to security. The thieves who are not aware of what type of lock is used here, will have harder time lockpicking it. Anyhow, most of the bike thieves prefer using bolt cutters anyway. The Foldylock Compact, however, has a surprise for them here too as its stainless steel is sturdy enough to withstand the bolt cutters as well.

Come and Get It

As the funding campaign is long over and the production is already ongoing, the final product is to be shipped in May 2017. At this moment, you can still pre-order the Foldylock Compact directly from the Seatylock website for the discounted price of $70 while the expected full retail price will be $85.
