Two Devices in One Box

Casting a look at the Lily’s Home souvenir, you’ll notice that it differs from the majority of its counterparts and consists of two flasks instead of one glass vessel we’re used to. The thing is that it is a 2-in-1 device that includes a storm glass and a Galileo thermometer.

There’s no need to explain how a storm glass works but let’s have a closer look at a Galileo thermometer. This device is also a transparent glass flask with a clear liquid and several glass bulbs inside. These bulbs are colorful and have different weight. Each of them is also equipped with a small temperature tag that varies from 64°F to 80°F. As for the operation principle, the bulbs inside the vessel change their positions - they either float or sink – depending on the temperature in a room. If the temperature rises, the bulbs sink and if it drops, they float. To know the temperature in your room, you should have a look at a tag of the lowest floating bulb.

Of course, both devices incorporated in the Lily’s Home souvenir have ancient operation principles that will hardly work in modern-world conditions. Yet, it’s a great thing to decorate your bedroom, living room, or office. Thanks to whimsical patterns of the glass storm and colorful bulbs inside the Galileo thermometer, this souvenir can come to your child's liking.

The New Centerpiece

The FlyWallD Weather Predictor Storm Glass looks elegant and refined. The diamond-shaped glass can become the centerpiece of any room.

At the same time, the gorgeous, downright stunning patterns formulating inside the glass will make this decoration piece looks truly luxurious. Plus, these patterns change with the temperature, so you'll never feel bored and will likely never get tired of this piece.

Of course, though not that accurate, these storm glasses are weather forecast tools and this piece is no exception. The transparent solution inside the glass is composed of various chemical substances sealed airtight within the container.

Again, the crystals that these chemical substances formulate will take different shapes depending on the temperature and weather outside.

The wooden base is sturdy and stable, so you can place this piece anywhere you want. That being said, the glass is pretty fragile, so we would recommend being extra careful with this piece.

Apart from that, the FlyWallD Weather Predictor Storm Glass is an excellent Christmas gift. You can gift this piece to pretty much any acquaintance without knowing his hobbies and preferences. There are no settings that this glass won't be able to elevate.

Tasteful and Refined

The 3D Home New-Large Storm Glass incorporates that classic teardrop shape that makes decoration pieces look tasteful and refined. You can place these pieces anywhere you want, from the living room to any bedroom and even bathroom, the glass won't look out of place in any of these settings.

The only issue here is that the crystallization effect is somewhat diminished when the room's too warm, so we would recommend putting this storm glass in the least warm room.

The entire piece measures 4.1" x 4.1" x 8.5", meaning that you won't be sacrificing too much space for this glass. You won't even have to find an especially even surface because the wooden base is stable enough to support the glass no matter what. The glass is surprisingly sturdy too. Although we wouldn't recommend testing its strength, there's a pretty good chance the glass will survive falling from ~3 feet.

According to the temperature and weather changes, the solution inside this flask will formulate different patterns, so you will be able to trace these changes, although not always accurately.

Bottom line, the 3D Home New-Large Storm Glass will be able to predict storms, rain, snow, and even mild temperature changes. Also, you won't have to be especially gentle with this glass.

A Work of Modest Art

Calling the Ambient Weather WS-YG634 a work of art would be an understatement. Considering how affordable the product is, this decoration piece looks almost too good. The glossy cherry wood finish looks and feels classy, polished, and elegant. The glass drip cup, made from hand-blown glass, looks as elegant as the aforementioned wooden frame.

As far as its operation principle goes, there's this narrow spout that connects to the body right below the water level. Rising above that level, the spout becomes open to the atmosphere.

When the air pressure drops lower than the pressure was at the time this body was sealed, the aforementioned water level in the cup's spout will rise above this water level. Conversely, when the air pressure rises, the water level in that spout will drop below the level in the body.

The downside to this principle is that you'll have to manually refill the glass from time to time.

On the bright side, you can place this piece onto any surface and even mount the piece onto walls.

All things considered, the Ambient Weather WS-YG634 is somewhat different compared to these glasses. We can get behind its differences though. This antique piece looks good enough to serve as an excellent conversation starter.

Attractive yet Practical Too

Though the GM GMISS X-Large-3 storm glass looks exquisite, this product doesn't bank on aesthetics alone.

Built into the wooden base, you'll find a thermometer and a hygrometer, so you'll be able to always tell the temperature and humidity outside.

Of course, the dynamic patterns inside the drop-shaped glass do that too but, as you probably know, there are more reliable and accurate methods, like the modern-day thermometer and hygrometer built into this device/decoration piece.

Where the product drops the proverbial ball is the aforementioned wooden base. To be more specific, the base is not entirely stable, so you'll have to place this device onto the most even surface you can find.

On the bright side, the LCD screen inside that base is large enough to make the values easily accessible. The screen is backlit, so you'll be able to read these values even during the night.

The entire piece measures 4.3" x 4.3" x 9", which is nice considering that, as far as these teardrop-shaped storm glasses are concerned, these are standard dimensions but these glasses seldom come equipped with built-in electronics.

In other words, the GM GMISS X-Large-3 storm glass is attractive yet useful at the same time. You can even paint the wooden base.

What Is a Storm Glass?

Although there are a lot of ways to predict weather nowadays, such as accurate weather stations, barometers, and weather thermometers, some of you might still be interested in getting one of the storm glasses. Invented in the 18th century, this device was believed to predict the weather, especially strong winds, storms, and tempests. This was the reason why it was called a storm glass.

The device is a glass flask with chemical liquid (consisting of ethanol, distilled water, ammonium chloride, potassium nitrate, and camphor) inside. These very components could stay liquid or transform into crystals of different shapes and sizes, thus predicting the weather. For example, clear liquid meant a bright sunny day while thread-like crystals at the top of a flask forecasted windy weather. As for modern applications, scientists can’t say this device can be reliably used for weather forecasting. Yet, if you place your storm glass in a light and well-ventilated room, you might observe the changes inside that would probably coincide with the weather forecasts on your smartphone.

Even if a storm glass can’t be used for 100% weather prediction, you still might want to have it as part of your interior. It can add elegance to any room decorating your office desk in an office or coffee table at home.
